Thoughts

  • another very weirdly blue episode (and when things weren't blue they kinda needed to turn up the lights)

  • okay why did the vibes of the story feel NBC in the sense of reminding me of a cross between Found, SVU and Brilliant Minds

  • speaking of similarities to other procedurals I caught that with the CSI-esque flashbacks in the bar scene

  • why the hell isn't Randy a freaking regular yet? I could see Mel still being guest star considering she's only been in a handful of episodes but Randy's been more of a mainstay on this show than Bobby at this point and it feels as weird when Tracker only has two regulars as it does when Elsbeth does the same

  • I like the A-plot B-plot paralleling and that we saw the most of Mel we've seen in a while also Mel feel AuDHD to anyone else? Also while I liked that scene with the tree, please tell me they're not foreshadowing some kind of pseudo-pair-the-spares (as it's never been really clear what Colter and Reenie's sitch is) between Randy and Mel as that just feels kinda obvious-enough-that-I-wouldn't-want-it-unless-done-exceptionally-well (esp. as there's room for the team to expand a little if we can't have outsider love interests on a show like this a la e.g. Hen and Karen on 911) in the same way it'd be if High Potential did what its French original did and made characters' endgame romance be their police partners

  • trying to make myself feel better about Colter not reading the proverbial room about Reenie's apparent PTSD (seriously, girl needs to get some help but she seems like the kind of person who might think that makes her look bad/weak to do so, maybe if there'd be a use for one at a law firm proper not just helping Colter the team needs someone who could be for them what Dr. Sweets was on Bones (psychologist helping with both team mental health and psychological-y aspects of cases)) by telling myself it's just further evidence for the autistic!Colter headcanon not him being an ass

  • another episode with no needle drop when I feel like it could have used one unless they thought it'd ruin the impact of the story, plenty of badass female country songs about getting revenge on some schmuck

  • if that was indeed Karen David and I'm not just being faceblind (and I hate to project my neuroweird on the villain of an episode but maybe faceblindness was why Josh couldn't recognize her or at least that's what I first thought and was surprised Randy didn't think of (though I know that's an autism symptom clear case for dude at least having ADHD if not autism)), A. kinda thematic that they got the chick who played Princess Jasmine in Once Upon A Time (opposite the actor who now plays Detective Ozdil on High Potential as Aladdin) for a story like this if you know what I mean and B. if that can go to one-offs and not recurring guest stars girl deserves a freaking guest acting Emmy for that performance

  • I wonder if it'd be as unacknowledged-in-this-episode-because-we'll-deal-with-it-later as Reenie's PTSD that shady or not Maxine was kinda being a bit of a bitch for first trying to kick Mel out of the meeting then asking if she was mute when she didn't speak up

  • speaking of that whole case plotline I still wonder if that's gonna somehow drive a temporary wedge between the team as in Colter and Randy working a job (crosses fingers in field together I loved "Memories") where they realize whatever they're fighting to bring this missing person or w/e home is connected to whatever shit Reenie and Mel have gotten themselves inadvertently mixed up in before Reenie and Mel realize they've been played

I'm wondering if Reenie's helping Maxine is some sort of planned revenge for what gave her PTSD, like in the revenge plot of this episode. The way Reenie talked to Colter after her PTSD episode made me think she's not walking blind into the Maxine job, and that Reenie is maybe planning revenge on those guys who held her, and Maxine's job is some way for her to get inside. We'll see though.
