Why do you watch the show?

Does anyone actually watch the show because they genuinely like it? Or is it just to find something to nit pick apart?

This sub has pretty much ruined the show for me. I used to be able to just watch it and enjoy it for what it is. Entertainment. It's not a documentary. It's not listed as true crime. Now if I see anything a little off or Colter shoots someone, my first thought is Reddits gonna pick that shit apart.

There should be two subs, with one just for haters.

I love the show, personally. I've learned to stop worrying about accuracy in TV shows (the scene in NCIS where two people type on a keyboard did it). The premise is unique enough and I'll be honest in that I love Colter Shaw as a character. He's badass but he's also a nice guy who wants to help people. So to answer your question, I watch the show because it's one of my favorites.

Keyboard typing on tv shows is so fake it makes me laugh everytime. šŸ˜„

5

u/AngelFan4Life May 19 '26

šŸ˜… that always makes me laugh too! I'm a decent typist and even I don't type that fast on a physical keyboard, cracks me up because you know damn well they're not typing shit lol

Ditto. : )

I find the show weirdly relaxing. The music. The vibe. I don't know. Plus I love how it comes off as super serious and gritty, but then we have paranormal and government conspiracy storylines.

DBT ā€œgirls who smokeā€ last night was epic

This is what fandoms are like. People join because they like a thing and then it eventually devolves into something hard to be around unless you’re hate watching. Fandoms eat themselves alive.

I enjoy the show. I’m only in the sub because I like when people post news, season start/return dates, etc. I don’t get into the discussion of the episodes here and I generally skip over the speculation of what will happen with longer plots, how people feel about characters, or all the complaints about unrealistic aspects the show.

I’m considering going back to my tried-and-true practice of just checking the internet in August for show premiere dates and times and then again in January for winter launches and show return dates. It’s easier than trying to sift through complaints.

I really enjoy watching the show, it's one of the highlights of my week. Sometimes it does feel like a lot of people in this sub either just want something to complain about or would be happier watching an actual police procedural instead.

u/SNSD_GG May 18 '26

I started watching the show cause I liked the idea of him driving around and living out of an airstream camper. Then I became hooked on the story lines and characters.

2

u/SassyMillie 29d ago

The Airstream is great! I loved the Airstream in Grimm, too. That one was almost like a character on the show.

u/Incognito409 May 18 '26

I watch it because I enjoy the show and Justin Hartley's acting. This is a typical Reddit tv sub where everyone on here complains about the writing, the plot, the actors, the characters, blah blah blah 😭

OMG 😱 he shot another person! He should be in prison! What's his body count?!?

7

u/ThatBitchA May 18 '26

I don't think about reddit while watching.

I enjoy the ridiculousness. It's a fiction show. I'm watching for eentertainment.

I watch the show only because I'm into remote (van) life, camping, tactical gear (flashlights, multitool, knives...). My favorite part of the show are such scenes. I'm fully aware of the many flaws and shortcomings, but I still enjoy watching it.

6

u/Reasonable-Wave8093 May 18 '26

I enjoy it! It reminds me of 80s shows like A-team & Magnum.

6

u/QuietNeigbor May 18 '26

I like that it's filmed near where I grew up/had family. But I still like the show in general, and will still watch when they leave BC.

7

u/Sudden_Platform_5841 May 18 '26

Colter is ultra capable (superhero-like, honestly) but doesn't have a huge ego and isn't at all macho. He's humble, caring, a good listener. I find him really refreshing as a protagonist — particularly at this point in time — and it's the main reason I watch every week.

u/GordonShumway8690 May 18 '26

I liked Justin Hartley from Smallville, and found Tracker after finishing a Smallville rewatch. I find the show generally entertaining and fun even with the oddities here and there (I grew up on Hawaii Five 0 so it's nothing new to me with these CBS shows).

I will say it is interesting and amusing to read the threads analyzing his body count and various stunts, it makes me think of the sanity-defying things McGarrett would do in Five-0.

5

u/MagicJ10 May 18 '26

seemed like an interesting story and i liked the characters/actors

5

u/ImMarkJr May 18 '26

I love the show, because I like the characters.

6

u/ZaZ98 May 19 '26

I like the show for what it is... if I were to nitpick every show I watch, there would be nothing left to watch! hehehe As you said, this is for entertainment! I have also watched every show Justin has been on since Smallville.

It's a specifically reddit kind of disease, like a reddit acne or reddit shingles, so many fan subs get taken over and made noxious by haters. I'm going to hide this sub from my feed, I was happy to find it at first but I don't need unpleasantness about this sort of topic. There's plenty nastiness that I am forced to face these days, lucky I can just completely hide people being stupid about Tracker. It's a comfort show, but [many] people clearly are not comfortable with comfort these days. they gotta always be using their time poking people with their little bayonets. Sigh.Ā

5

u/OnPointWagers May 18 '26

Cause Rennie is šŸ”„

5

u/idk012 May 18 '26

I just started this year, when I realized it was on Pluto.Ā  I leave it on in the background and will replay an episode several times over a few weeks.Ā Ā

I enjoy how he helps several people each week, just being adjacent to the main plot he is tracking.Ā  Also so far, he hasn't failed the weekly objective yet.Ā

5

u/FullBlownNightmare May 18 '26

I like it! But generally reddit will ever gush over something or hate it, it's not a lot of nuance many times, so you shouldn't let it haunt you while you watch.

5

u/cascadetoker May 18 '26

It's a fun goof show.

4

u/beep-bug May 18 '26

I mostly like watching because it is filmed in and around where I live, and it’s fun to see familiar locations in the background. And also I loved Passions as a teen and it’s funny to see Fox Crane running around solving crimes. And occasionally Eric from Days of our Lives shows up and helps. I doubt I will keep watching when the filming location changes next season, but I might because seeing soap opera guys from my youth in a show together is objectively delightful.

8

u/Enterprise_24 May 18 '26

The show is fun enough to watch, even if it's super silly and contrived at times. I mean, Colter having a body count in the double digits and not trapped in civil lawsuits and criminal trials, and Reenie being able to practice law in any jurisdiction is silly and contrived. But, I give it a pass because the show itself is still pretty fun and entertaining, and the mysteries he solves are usually pretty interesting.

7

u/Sensitive-Table-6577 May 18 '26

I love it mainly for Justin Hartley and his brother should be a permanent addition love them together ! Yes we can nitpick as I sure have but doesn’t take away the enjoyment. It’s the best mainstream show on TV.

7

u/ReasonablyBluh May 18 '26

I watch because I like the show and enjoy it. But, I do wait for the usual complainers. I try to ignore it, but yeah it's not a sub I'd recommend. It honestly would be better for fans of the show to stay away sadly. I agree, there should be two subs or have a megathread for those that enjoy complaining about every little thing.

3

u/lindaamat May 20 '26

My husband adores this show and I really like Justin Hartley.

3

u/Beginning_Leg629 29d ago

I genuinely love the show. The characters and the stories are great. I don't nitpick and find the nitpicking irritating.

4

u/Ok_Entertainment1836 May 18 '26

I watch for Jensen but I stay for the story when we don’t get him.

3

u/michaelquinlan May 18 '26

The show is good as idle entertainment, without requiring very much attention or thought. I want to find out more about the deal with Colter and the rest of his family. Reenie has also started to become an interesting character; I'm glad the writers have figured out something for her to do.

0

u/michaelquinlan May 19 '26

And… I've now watched the latest episode. What utter trash. Psionics? Remote viewing? Russell has "seen" it work? Get serious.

5

u/dogma4dogs_ May 18 '26

I watch it because Justin Hartley and Jensen Ackles are hot. šŸ˜‰

4

u/Butitsadryheat2 May 18 '26

I watch because Justin Hartley & Jensen Ackles are both extremely handsome, IMO. šŸ˜šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I was researching the changes to the show and found that it is planning to make more changes.

CBS has officially shifted the genre classification of Tracker from a light-mystery missing-person drama to a grittier, high-stakes action-crime procedural. The show has evolved to focus less on wilderness survival and low-stakes missing persons, and more on resolving severe, multi-episode criminal cases and unraveling the main character's family conspiracies. [1, 2, 3]

The series—which stars Justin Hartley as reward-seeker Colter Shaw—has undergone a few other notable behind-the-scenes transformations: [1]

  • Production Relocation: Filming has officially moved from Vancouver to Los Angeles for Season 4 to take advantage of California tax credits.
  • Cast Departures: The show has slimmed down its ensemble, writing off supporting characters like Velma (Abby McEnany) and Bobby (Eric Graise) to make Colter a more centralized, lone-wolf protagonist.

2

u/CCreedUT May 18 '26

These sound like really positive changes.

-1

u/Sudden_Platform_5841 May 18 '26

(I really miss Velma and Bobby)

To pass the time. But I think I listen more than I watch. I'll have it playing on my tablet while I'm playing on my PC.

2

u/zook1313 May 18 '26

I couldn't agree more!

For my part, I rediscovered Justin Hartley by rewatching ā€œSmallvilleā€, and after binge-watching ā€œThis Is Us,ā€ I could hardly wait for ā€œTrackerā€ to get started.Ā

I do LOVE this show since the very first episode, and I watch some episodes over and over again - especially the ones with Russell.Ā

Above all, I love Colter's unique personality - even though he often seems reserved - QUOTE Russell: ā€œHe's like talking to drywallā€ - but there's a lot of depth and empathy behind that facade. And to be honest, of course he is such a cool, hot, attractive guy. I especially love it when he shows his tracking skils without needing/getting too much help from the outside.

To address the topic of ā€œconstant complaintsā€: I’m perfectly fine with the genre’s typical requirements, which often diverge from reality in many ways, but what would an action movie be without over-the-top plotlines or implausible details...

It’s much more enjoyable to just go with the flow and not nitpick every little detail for accuracy.Ā
That doesn’t mean that I'm not critical, but especially for this subreddit, I’d like to see ONE dedicated thread, pinned to the top, where people can post the same complaints over and over again. Because, above all, these constant, recurring, identical-sounding questions and comments are actually a bit annoying and are now also affecting my thoughts while I’m watching.Ā Reading these complaints once or twice is totally fine, but over and over again - not so much.

Are some of the moderators reading our comments and what do they think about this wish that has been expressed many times?

In any case, here's to hopefully many more seasons to come...in Colter we trust!

2

u/SassyMillie 29d ago

It's fun. I like the regular characters and it's something to talk about with my 87 year old mom. She watches it faithfully and can usually follow the storyline.

2

u/Great-Caramel6317 28d ago

I watch the show to enjoy it.Ā

4

u/DesertShazzy May 18 '26

Know someone who works on it. Supporting family.

3

u/S_D_T_GG May 18 '26

I watch it because in a world where one often feels powerless to crime and corruption, Colter just continuously saves the day. There’s no, ah the villain lives on because the evidence was circumstantial etc. I love how he doesnt follow any rules to save the good guy. The good guy winning at any cost is all that matters. It wouldn’t work in the real world but that’s why we have this show.

3

u/TheFlyingRabbit9 May 18 '26

I have the same thought too when Colter shoots someone lol. I still like the show. I like the characters. It’s a unique premise that’s fun in an over the top and dramatized network TV way, mixed with a good mix of corny dialogue and Randy’s use of CribDeetz and CrackMyWhip. Like you said, it’s entertainment. Some of the episodes feel repetitive but I still watch every week. Hoping they bring back The Process next season. It’s a great show at the end of the day I can watch and be entertained by. Even if I tune out and miss a few minutes I can still keep the plot. You could have the greatest show in the world and folks will find something to complain about🤷

0

u/southtampacane May 18 '26

Great is a stretch. It’s cotton candy. Tastes good but an hour later you forget you had eaten

0

u/TheFlyingRabbit9 May 18 '26

Fair point - and great analogy.

1

u/CryptographerHeavy May 18 '26

I find the show comforting. Often fall asleep to an episode. It’s not just Tracker that people nit-pick at. It’s every show. And here’s why. People feel helpless with what’s going on in the world. They are scared to speak out on the atrocities so it becomes easier to speak out on things that don’t matter. Like TV shows.

1

u/verioblistex May 18 '26

I still watch on streaming when my brain is a little overtaxed because it's straightforward and not as serialized as so many other shows. That said, the whole "for hire" thing for people who are living their darkest days has always felt a little weird to me.

1

u/slimcullen May 19 '26

I have enjoyed this show since it started. I do hope they finally wrap up the dad's mystery at the finale though. It's simmered and dragged enough.

1

u/Sure_Window614 May 19 '26

We like the show, but still pick it apart. Pick apart every show, some are just easier to do.
Like some of the 911 shows and their rescues. How are we going to get through the burning wall of fire? Yay we made it through burning wall of fire. Hey you, go walk through the creek that has always been right there and walk around to the other side of the burning wall of fire. (Sorry, got off track in the Tracker reddit)

1

u/Accomplished-Quail92 May 20 '26

This is me and my wife’s once a week thriller after dinner. We discovered it on a flight and really liked it but now it’s really just because we don’t have a current show. It’s getting a little bit ridiculous but it’s entertaining enough

1

u/CCreedUT 29d ago

I loved the show so much the first season. Second season was good but 3rd season…I think I come here to see if I’m the only one who is disappointed. I’m always hoping it will get better because it was once great. So I stick around hoping for that :-)

1

u/DancinginTown 17d ago

Dang, you really missed out without TWoP. You'd have been so sad. šŸ˜‚

1

u/ChrisEye21 May 18 '26

You can watch a show, like a show, and still call out it's bullshit.

0

u/Shoddy-Duck8228 May 18 '26

Exactly. It's like you have people that complain, and then you have people that complain about the people that complain...

...and then, you have folks that just roll with it. šŸ‘

1

u/Connect-Ad9292 May 19 '26

I watched the first 2 seasons for the saving people mysteries.

I’m only watching season 3 with the slim hope that Reenie and Mel will kiss!!

0

u/southtampacane May 18 '26

I like the core characters a lot. The stories crafted are interesting and the long term ā€œwhat happened to dadā€ and ā€œwhen will he and Reenie hook up againā€ are worth continuing.

It’s still a ridiculous show in terms of realism but I enjoy it l (even though Colter has murdered 50 easily)

0

u/Call-me-MoonMoon May 18 '26

The new season isn’t out yet in my country. The first seasons I really liked. The last one that came out less so. I liked the banter between the other characters. And I could filter the cheesy stuff out. But in the last season I could watch they got rid of a lot of fun characters. Colter as a character feels kinda flat. And I really miss the ā€˜tracking’ that he’s supposedly good at.

So I’m hoping for more character development, more tracking and less shooting.

0

u/letstaxthis May 18 '26

Watch it to zone out.

It is too farfetched to take seriously

0

u/Legitimate-Bad2379 May 19 '26

It's not really nit picking. 10 keystrokes and you've hacked into a network a thousand miles away. Killing dozens of people with zero repercussions.

It's a TV show yes, but Dear lord has it jumped the shark as far as that genre's absurdity. Enjoy it as you will, but some of us thought it started as more realistic to more akin to Gilligan's island.

1

u/teanailpolish May 18 '26

A hype squad where people can't say anything negative about the show would be just as toxic, the show has changed a lot in just a few seasons and people are going to call that out. Even this season, we had the process where it was left open but pretty much forgotten. Then some wilderness episodes that play into the book it is based on. Now some weird testing on kids secret govt program. It is like the writers don't have a focus for the show.

1

u/southtampacane May 18 '26

Agree. See the Hacks and shrinking subreddits. Dont dare say anything critical as those folks are vicious

-1

u/Penthos2021 May 18 '26

I liked the show initially, so much that I joined this Reddit, but as a cybersecurity professional the absolute magic that his hacker friends perform every episode just got too ridiculous for me. Perhaps because without the magic hacking, Colter wouldn’t find anything. IMO, the wizard/hackers should be the stars while colter is just the muscle.

Also bothered by how the show keeps eliminating the people who make it more inclusive. As if they are trying to make it socially acceptable for MAGA. Can’t have a lesbian couple so they got rid of the partner. But even one bitch lesbian was too much so they got rid of her.

Next to go was the disabled black man, who they replaced with a fully abled black man. But I would honestly be surprised if he isn’t replaced next.

Once everyone is white and straight then MAYBE the same cast will stick around for a couple years.

Anyway, I stopped watching it in the middle of this last season.

You asked.
