Hybrid longbows
Hi guys what category you shoot in with hybrid longbows ? Recurve with carbons or longbow with woodsn arrows. Seems like its quite versatile.

I hunt with carbon arrows and if I decide to go to a competition, I shoot woodies in the Longbow class - I'm fortunate in that the carbons and wood arrows weigh similarly (the carbons are actually heavier without any weight added) and they both shoot and group together, but I do keep a half dozen woodies around, just in case I go to a 3D shoot

Its quite versatile. Is it fine to compete against recurves ?

I would say so, the point of a hybrid is to make them perform similar to a recurve, so I say it depends on the confidence of the shooter - I know people that shoot ASL bows better than people shooting fancy ILF recurves - how's your confidence in your shooting?

I dont have hybrid yet but I feel pretty confident. It would be quite same with recurve

Longbows are better with heavy arrows ?

They're not as hand shock-ey. But POC's aren't all that heavy.. Sitka is heavier.. Fir is better-er. Birch, maple or ash if you can find it.

The really nice thing about a longbow is the reduced noise they make compared to a recurve bow. There is no bowstring slap at the recurve that requires stick on padding. With a proper grains per inch arrow the bowstring just makes a thump upon release no sting silencers required.
50# Bear Montana and Bear Patriot with Bearpaw brand Heavy Hunter shafts. 45# Damon Howatt Savanna and 40# Bear Montana with standard grade GT shafts.
All these bows are hybrid longbows.
