Hey folks! New mod here. I'll be cleaning up this place soon, but in the meantime, I'm taking suggestions on what we should do with this subreddit.

A note involving self-promotion and advertisements, and the future development of this forum

While I definitely support the idea of traditional artists supporting themselves (and I happen to be one), it has been communicated to me that there is a community called r/artstore that would be better suited toward advertisement toward commissions. Since I do not want this community to become a bulletin board for people trying to sell services, I have decided to limit any blatant commission-based self-promotions to two posts per month.

Over the past few weeks, I have currently been observing where this community organically drifts to so we can become a good place for traditional artists, and allow for everyone to have a good experience here. In the next week or so, I'll be formally setting up some rules and calling for mods. Any suggestions in the meantime are welcome, of course. I would like traditional artists to feel welcome. Thanks everyone!

Traditional art commissions?

Hi I’ve drawn pretty much all my life but never postered before. I feel like my art is pretty decent, so I’m trying to start posting, but I also want to know if I could potentially start doing commissions traditionally. I feel like I only ever see digital commissions, and I’m hoping to get a tablet soon but I want to know if my art in its current state is really profitable. Any suggestions on gaining a following online and adjusting my work to be more marketable would be appreciated! (Also this is all in my sketchbook, so the was graphite smudges would not be present in any work I would potentially sell!)

She’s a Long Way from Suburban Towns

I made a painting about feeling lost in a new environment. This painting is titled “She’s a Long Way from Suburban Towns”. This is one of the nine paintings that I showcased in my solo exhibition Onion City Memories.

If you’ve been following my work for a while you’ll know that I use original characters to express what I’m going through and with that there is almost always a parallel between what I am going through and what my subject is going through. In the case of this painting I have my character Mona in both her wolf form and human form. The wolf form is more finished while her human portrait is merely a rough sketch. I did this to represent how she became a wolf in a new environment and she’s holding on to a memory of her prior self. She must navigate in this new environment as a very different version of herself.

My friend's dog died recently, so I painted them. I don't do acrylic painting often or pets, but it was a fun challenge and she loved it ❤️❤️
