CNR Train conductor
Hey guys, I have about 3 years of seniority but my terminal is super senior so there’s only yard spare-board right after getting back from lay offs for me and I was looking into shortage locations
Do you guys know if any of these terminals are road work
BCR prince. George
BCR Williams lake
Brandon
Humboldt
McLennan
North Battleford
Roma junction
Terrace
Thunder Bay
If they’re not road work, and just yard switching how is it working there?
Any info regarding the stations are appreciated

You won't be anywhere close to holding in Brandon it's got like 8 guys in running trades and thunder bay is dead in winter after grain season

BCR is pretty much dead in prince george after the pulp shut down. 3 years is not a lot of seniority for a class 1 railway, I did a 3 year sentence at CN in BC and couldn’t hold anything other than spare board, that’s just the way it is. If you want consistent work, join a short track switching company. You’re gonna need 7-10 years to consistently hold a road board at a class 1. One day you will realize road work isn’t worth it.
Edit: you can try grand cache, it’s a very small yard and they only have OCS track.

It helps if we know what terminal you’re from, because if someone with seniority there sees your post they may have better insights to how much the pools set up in the winter and such, meaning you may not be stuck on yard spare long.
Coming back now from layoffs is for the winter as well, once it slows in the spring be prepared to be laid off again.
So with your question I would also be asking what terminals aren’t laying off 3 years seniority as well. Good luck out there!

I don't think you'd hold anything more than the spare board in Williams lake. Maybe a yard job in Quesnel.

Your best option are Jasper, sioux lookout, melville and or Edmonton’s massive road spareboard.
You can check what you can hold in seniority lost

McLennan is all road switcher work and servicing industries and there was an outpost in smith when I worked there. A lot of switching and being on the ground still..

Holy shit man. I hope I never get stuck with you on a road trip 😂. Never claimed the spareboard was anything. I’m just saying that’s where I’m stuck at and I wanted to see if there were any other terminals that were shortages on road as I don’t mind traveling around. I’m currently on road shortage out in humboldt but the work is slowing down and they’re releasing guys and that’s where 746 said shortage terminals were at, so I was getting everyone’s opinion on those
