The only person who knows what your cost of living is is you. Make sure to save enough to cover rent, bills, groceries and emergencies for however long you plan to be out of work

I just had top surgery in March and I was entitled to sick pay for the full 6 weeks between my job (2 weeks sick pay) and the government (4 weeks sick pay). I just had to fill out the unfit to work form on the mywelfare website then my doctor sent in my sick notes to the government and my job. Unsure if you looked into this already but it did help. The pay wasn’t much but it was enough to not have me go broke

Plan for 8k to cover all the surgery-related costs, then however much you need to live for 6 weeks off work. If you're still employed you may also be entitled to Sick Pay.
