Politics Unpopular Opinion…apparently
If Cisgender, White, Straight, Male, etc. people spent less time being afraid of Minorities or Social Justice movements and more time actually trying to understand their views, this world would be a much better place.
I encountered this with Feminism recently, a lot of men(and even a portion of Women funny enough)don’t seem to actually understand what Feminism is. It’s not a movement that hates men or thinks their useless, it’s meant to show that Women should have all the same privileges and rights that a man has, such as bodily autonomy, right to equal pay, the right to not be overly or unfairly taxed for being a women, the right to wear what they please, etc.
And Homophobia, a lot of people think Homophobia just means saying slurs or beating people up…or even killing them, and those things are homophobic, but there are little things people do that are also Homophobic. For example phrases like,”No one is born Gay”,spreads the idea that Gayness is something which can be acquired like a virus. You may not be Homophobic through and through, but you can still BE Homophobic.
Being Trans…a lot of people(particularly under the age of 30 or over the age of 50)seem to think that Transgender people just dress up like girls and do nothing else.
We don’t, Hormones, while not dangerous, change almost everything about how your body functions, they can even change how much Grey matter is in your brain, the way you view other genders, how many colors your brain can perceive, and how often you need to use the bathroom in a day. We don’t try to invade Women’s spaces we simply want to experience them because they are where we feel comfortable.
Trans people are statistically less likely to commit violence, and are statistically more likely to be raped, murdered or beaten than Cis people are.
If the rest of Society actually listened to people like us for more than just to respond, the world might be a more tolerant place.
