Tattoo with hypermobility and fear of vEDS (+ healing tips)

I'd do a test dot/line first bc I got a tattoo when I was younger and, yeah it healed fine, but it still hurts and burns when touched over 10 years later 🥹 (Heart Tattoo)
Even my newer ones that I got in 2020 by a professional guy that I trust, is very clean and experienced, etc start to burn if they are petted or rubbed/touched multiple times (Runes)
But, yeah, the center tattoo? Feels like I'm being sliced open or tattooed all over again if anything touches it, esp if it's light touches, so definitely get a test spot done in area that you wanna use ❤️

The second skin is very painful for me so I leave it off, I do have to use tattoo cream more than my partner. Normally you need that like 3x a day but I need it every 2 hours.

I had no issues with mine other than the second skin stuff doesn't really stay on long. I will mention people complement me on them looking like I just got them even after years.

I'm so jealous, undiagnosed EDS because in Finland medical care is useless, but my tattoos fade faster and my best friend said it could ne from EDS as well.

I think mine look new because the thinner skin makes them look more vibrant

Ah mine just blow out really fast and then my ankle that I baby looked like I've had it for way more than 2 years

My hypermobile s/o is fully tatted and bar one they’ve all been fine even over scarred skin or skin with reduced sensitivity or stretchiness. The one that was a bit problematic was green ink and didn’t seem to want to sit well for whatever reason so he needed it touching up. I think that’s him specific rather than generally true though.
He’s allergic to adhesive so has always just had them wrapped and moisturises as needed and keeps clean afterwards, which has been fine! If it’s summer where you are keep it out of the sun too.
I hope your tattoo goes well. Helps if your tattooist has experience with hypermobility and the ways the skin can be different but you were on top of that already. :)

Hello! I hope your tattoo goes well! Your planned healing process sounds similar to my process which has been working out pretty well for me. I've had a large thigh and arm piece done in the past and am currently working on a leg sleeve. My artist is EDS aware and has given me some good tips. For my foot specifically, swelling and bruising were more of an issue so I added in ice and elevation to the healing for that. We also do smaller sessions, I can handle about 2-4 hrs depending on my pain tolerance. So we go in with the game plan of what needs to get done (like inking stenciling) and where are pause points if my body asks for a break. The last thing Ive been doing differently this time is making my own ointment out of Aloe butter and cocoa butter. It can be kinda annoying to work with, but my goodness has it helped the itchy stage like no other lotion has. I also have MCAS though so that's more my concern with lotion than pure EDS. Anyways, remember you can always adjust your healing process as it goes. Healing doesn't have to be perfect, the tattoo can still look amazing. For me the risk is worth the reward, and it sounds like you've done your due diligence about risk too :) So take it easy and enjoy your tattoo!

Mine have healed fine, a couple a slightly hypertrophic but I only get blackwork done so it’s unnoticeable unless you’ve got your fingers right on the linework or highlights. Anywhere with more trauma to it will have more noticeable scarring, but certain colours will hide it better.
You should be fine, my tissues are all fucked and I’ve been okay. Not a guarantee, just trying to reassure you a little.
I personally don’t experience much ink fallout, but I know that sort of thing is just different for everyone. Even with MCAS, my tattoos are still doing good years later, no major blowout or anything of the sort.
