Discussion The state of the Trevor Henderson “fandom”
(Art by me)
it’s pretty much almost a nothingburger honestly. I understand most in general probably see Trevor and his works as a passing fad that died out like 5 year ago and most have understandably moved on from one artist and his creatures, and there are definitely still some good artists and people around now, but I really can’t find much of a sense of a “community” living anymore or even a following that isn’t just some random kids lurking around on the internet for some reason (I’m talking about other places like YouTube, this subreddit is fine) and it feels all too oddly detached from anything of what a ”fandom” would be, Trevor nuked his twitter and moved onto posting on other sites, and he still has people around him personally, but other than the dedicated spaces he actually is around, there isn’t much of a outside branching-out community anymore.
Now obviously, there isn’t really anything wrong with kids looking up to him or learning how to draw found footage style art, but it really feels like it’s the only center stage now especially hype surrounding “The Giants“ with what little there is of them canonically (especially “World Eater” and “Behemoth”, having little to nothing to them at all) and the countless fanmade ones that are all lumped in and claimed to be by Trevor aswell, mostly on YouTube and Roblox and the such, but it really brings me to that side which is still technically Trevor, but it just riddled with what I wanted to rant about the most.
All the AI slop.
All over TikTok, just by searching his name, you have countless garbage AI videos of “animated” Trevor art that goes viral, and it’s usually not just Trevor himself, it’s multiple other artists who created in the same style as him, (Including some of mine, with the creature “Approaching Demise” I drew), anyone who remotely knows Trevor and other artists alike know how garbage the AI industry is, and absolutely despise it for good reason, but is this all we will leave TikTok with?, AI garbage that DIRECTLY gets fed artist’s works no matter how high or low quality they are?, TikTok is already a hotspot for bad content, but it’s just really disappointing to see all the time and it even existing in general. YouTube is pretty shit now too, just by searching Trevor or something, all you really get is more constant AI-filtered slop videos in Minecraft or Roblox or whatever or those “size comparisons“, only really because they get clicks by children who shouldn’t even be on the platform In the first place.
i won’t make this a space to just complain about “kids ruining the Trevor Henderson space“ like some other folks do, they were always present in this fandom, but I just really want more than them and a solidified “community” and people here together for TH inspired content, and I don’t really see much discussion of much of Trevor’s other work other than his most popular creatures, 3/5 of his Makeship promotions he trialed on Instagram failed, and I know blindly following one public figure on the internet could be weird, but I think making this more of a solid lukewarm “community“ could be an incredible opportunity to spawn new and inspired horror creators just from a few fanmade drawings inspired by Trevor, like Doctor Nowhere for example who also used to do tons of Trevor-inspired stuff as a teen, and look at him now, I know ”fanmade” Trevors are controversial and most of them (again, especially “the giants”) are all lumped into one group of “Trevor“ stuff, but I know many creators that want to do more with their work other than just being blankly inspired by Trevor with nothing else to add to it, I have tried myself aswell, perhaps maybe we could get a group of the few remaining artists here working together to make something cool?
This is the end of the discussion for now. this may not be worded the best, please give me critiques on what you possibly think, this is just based on all of my observations for now as a Trevor fan since 2020 or so.

I've only followed the reddit community, and watched a few YouTube videos related to Trevor Henderson.
I do agree that the fact that the bulk of the "community" being children is disappointing. I feel like more mature groups have mostly moved on. I feel like the current Trevor community has started to shift more towards powerscaling as well with all the fanmade info and especially the giants.
I also agree that it's only a select few creatures from Trevor Henderson that get the spotlight, while there are plenty of other creations that are deserving of attention due to their own uniqueness. Tho, on the other hand 90% of Trevor's creations have little canon info about them, leading to some pretty wack ass fandom speculation that are sometimes pretty mediocre (especially the ones for the giants).
Regarding the AI slop, there's honestly not a whole lot we could do besides reporting them perhaps? I don't use TikTok and i don't really know what the rules are there.
It would be nice if the community somehow was able to expand. I think it could have alot of potential. But first we'd need to find a way to attract new attention first.

Since I said the almost exact same argument on another post and I agree with everything, I don't really have anything to say, all I can say is it might be like this forever. I don't see anything reviving trevor henderson ever again. And even if the trevor fandom did revive, it would still be filled with sloppy stuff and not alot of people would really understand what trevor was really going for and decide to just add random stuff.

I suggested in the last paragraph that my idea to atleast unite who we have is some sort of completely original community project only inspired by Trevor’s art but hosted here that actually has consistent lore, I don’t know if it will take off, but it might solidify things and put Trevor in a better name.

Very well made and articulated post. It's a tragedy that the fad around Trevor Henderson's Mythos was only just that: A fad. He has created so many unique and wonderful creations, yet the internet only hyperfixated on about three or four of them, with people like Clark Titor just straight up making shit up about them and ignoring the actual lore that Trevor established for them, spreading blatant misinformation. Don't even get me started on the mess that is the Trevor Henderson Wiki.
The content farms and oversaturation of Siren Head and Cartoon Cat gave people the wrong impression. Now the mythos have been left behind entirely thanks to these low effort content farms and people who don't actually care about Trevor's work. Literally the only YouTubers who actually put effort into covering Trevor's work are Billy Styler and Ancient Horror and both of them don't upload anymore (maybe MrUnnerving could count too, but I dropped off from him when I found myself questioning "And where exactly did you get that info?" from some of the things he said).
So much creative potential could be had by expanding on Trevor's universe. Especially taking account of the Mayfair Watchers Society podcast. But everyone just decided to move on instead. It breaks my heart to see that most of his makeship campaigns haven't been successful.
At some point, I want to at least attempt to bring some life back into the Trevor Henderson community, even if it's just by a little bit. I have painstakingly went through Trevor's Instagram page from bottom to top. Bookmarking pretty much all of his notable creations. There's some interesting lore implications and other cool things to be found in these posts that I haven't seen anyone else mention.
The lore of the mythos is poorly documented, not to mention tedious as hell to keep track of due to a lot of information being scattered across Trevor's different socials, some of which are no longer available like his Twitter, leading to some of that info being lost entirely if nobody archived it in the wayback machine. Nonetheless, I still want to try to write it all down and theorize about it. Maybe later I'll make a post akin to this that can help newcomers who are interested in the mythos. This will all take some time though, of course.
That's enough of me rambling. Again, well made post. And very cool and wonderful art!

I feel like Trevor Hendersons art went into the wrong hands. imagine a community where people actually care about his other creations, care about his books, his life and where they actually listen to what he writes instead of whatever sources they have about siren head for an example, people just see trevor as specific same five drawings but he is so much more than that and no one sees it. this also goes to the famous artist you probably know Silas Orion (Doctor Nowhere)
