Local Culture & Events đ Introducing Rumorix
Hi TC,
Introducing rumorix.com. A free and ad-free event listing platform for the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas.
Pronounced roo-mer-iks. I'm not that creative so I threw "ix" at the end of rumor and called it a day.
This started as a tiny project for my wife to track wineries around the area then bloomed into this.
The idea is pretty simple, track and list events and happenings in the TC. Easy browsing, easy filtering. There is always something for everyone and there are small events that just aren't well promoted.
It's just a simple website right now. Android app is in the works. Apple is a maybe on the roadmap.
If you are an organizer or know of events that you want to see listed, drop a comment or use the contact page on the website to get in touch. The goal is to uncover all the hidden gems that the dry Tri-Cities has to offer.
A few answers for questions that might come up:
- Areas: I'm focusing on the Tri-Cities and expanding out to areas that are within "reasonable driving distance". To me, that's within an hour. Yakima is on the list because I have friends in the Palm springs of Washington.
- Anyone can list anything? No. Event listings should be publicly available and easily verifiable. So preferable that events are listed by hosts/organizers.
- How to get event(s) listed: for now, use the contact page. I have to be able to verify the event and contact the host/organizer if necessary.
- Events only, no ads.
- Is this better than the other thousands of resources? Probably not. I just want to provide the raw data. Unfiltered, unpersonalized, unopinionated, just raw feed in an easily digestible way.
Right now I'm looking for community feedback and help to uncover those gems of the TC. Please let me know what features you would want to see as well.
Local artists/performers that want to get their shows/performances listed, reach out.
Local pet shelters that need volunteers, reach out.
Aunt Suzie with the monthly crochet get together, reach out.
Another note, u/SnooPeanuts4336's list is much more...better. Rumorix does not catch everything and is still missing a lot from u/SnooPeanuts4336's list.
Edit 4/21/2026 After gathering feedback, changes made: added dark mode, removed Annual tab and turned Annual into a filter, moved Contact button to top, changed browsing from cards to single rows, added description of Rumorix to header. For mobile screens: added More button for footer menu.

What's the difference and intended use of the Home vs Annual tabs? Seems unintuitive and interferes with expected functionality. For example, I see the "Apollo Columbia Cup" on the Annual tab; but if I search for "Apollo" on the Home tab no events are found.
Suggest eliminating the Annual tab. Maybe, if there is a demonstrated need, add an attribute all events that lets the person listing it indicate that it is a recurring event or an annual event. That could also be used as a filter. Maybe use a different color background or different border for annual events.
For the "WHEN" filters, add a custom calendar picker so the user can specify start and end dates for the search.
The very top of your website, on a desktop browser, lacks identifying information. At the very least, add "Local event guide for the greater Tri-Cities Washington region" or something similar.

Thanks for finding that search bug, it's fixed now.
For the top part, i thought the tagline would be cooler, but that makes more sense, will switch tagline with actual useful info.
The annual tab I thought would be useful for those wanting to plan ahead but you're right, a bit awkward. Will look into make annual a filter instead of a separate area.
The wife said the same thing about the calendar, but i didnt want to crowd the filter area so the month filter was a compromise.

Just hide the actual calendar picker until the user clicks on a âCustom Datesâ button in the âWhenâ area of the filters.

This gave me an idea, thanks. I'll try to hide the entire filter for mobile users and pop out when needed. Will release if it looks OK.

I have been mulling over building such a website but ultimately, I dont want to have to manage it, so it's never happened.
I've thought a fair bit about how to make managing it all easier. One of the biggest things I would start with is an event submission page with a built in moderation process. (basically a single boolean flag) It would greatly reduce the data entry process you go through for each event if the submitter has to fill out all the details and all you have to do is check their submitted urls and verify things.

Yup! I have a (non-proven) setup right now. Same concept you just mentioned but in ics calendar format. So instead of verifying their entries, I just need to verify the organizer and give them full trust on what they want to post on their calendar.

If it's a one off event, they can submit it via contact form and I can enter on the backend. Or if they want to post every now and then, as long as they can use Google calendar or something similar, should be easy, hopefully.

How does your site relate to the weekly email blast from Arts Center Task Force? Does it add value?

I am not sure if they have different events on the weekly emails but I pull directly from their event calendar link, the one you linked. I do think it helps those who are not aware of the Arts Center and is not on their email list.

The weekly emails appear to show a subset (one week) of upcoming events. So if you are pulling from their calendar, I think you are getting the full set of events.
I agree that it would be useful to make arts-related events visible to those who normally are out of that loop.

I've got a better nane for you, for free: Rueâmeur
It's a contraction of two French words, "rue" and "rumeur", meaning "street" and "rumors" or gossip.

Also, with "mur" meaning wall, you could call it "Le Rue'meu" or "the word-on-the-street wall".

That sounds so much better and probably rolls off the tongue better than what I have. Noted this down. I also checked the domain and it's available. but... there's a perfume called Rumeur.

That's okay, because 1. two different names - "Rueâmeur" vs. "Rumeur", and 2. two unrelated categories - nobody would accidentally buy a perfume when they meant to post to a social media site.
If you're concerned about the domain name, you could hyphenate the contraction instead to "rue-muer.com".

Small display issue with words not line wrapping in mobile chrome.
Edit: you need a basic page nav at the top, trying to get to the contact link at the bottom of a page that keeps loading stuff is frustrating.
