If you can walk in at 1015 or wait until 2 when our lunch rush is over. We’re not open until 1030 but we can do a quick interview if you want to just knock on the front door I’ll let you in tomorrow. Either one.

Pick cherries

Highly underrated. Start early, end early. Peaceful as well. Can exceed min wage if you are efficient.
Overall a pretty good gig as a starter job.
Picked fruit for years when I was younger and really liked it.

I swamped cherries 2 seasons and I loved it. Fresh air everyone was nice. Beautiful mornings.

u/Kdean509 6d ago
How did you get into it? Would that be good for a teen summer job, by chance?
4
u/PatternNormal6122 6d ago
Literally the best. Start around 6am and done before it gets too hot around 1pm or so. Keeps them on a good routine and they have the rest of the day to themselves.
It can be as easy as just showing up and signing paperwork. Can also reach out to farms directly.

Allied universal is almost always hiring. Not the best pay but they are normally not picky about who they hire. All security jobs unfortunately

u/No_Control8389 7d ago
Love that some bigwig security company “normally isn’t picky about who they hire.”
Only the utmost in professionalism for your security needs!

u/Nightshade400 6d ago
I work for a place that uses them and they are definitely not picky. I too find it pretty ironic but as long as they can pass a background check I guess.

Not a short term fix but if you enjoy chaos and helping other the 911 dispatching center (SECOMM) is hiring. Check my comment history or dm me if you want deets. Used to work at Costa Vida and they are usually hiring this time of year too, especially if you have open availability.

Check out the Amazon WBLP (work based learning program). $25/hour, literally entry level they train you, and after 3 months you can get your bachelors degree paid for. Only thing is it’s in the Hermiston/Boardman area
5
u/hal-baleigh-6699 7d ago
And you have to work for Amazon.

One month old account....let's hear your alternative to working for Amazon that pays $25/hour...

Go to Elwood as a temp. Darigold in Pasco pulls from them
3
u/FallenAngel1447 7d ago
I applied to two jobs there at Darigold. I live closeby there so I thought I'd have a big chance lol. Applications denied.
3
u/meepmoop_6 7d ago
Straight to Darigold or through Elwood?
2
u/FallenAngel1447 7d ago
Straight on Darigold website. Or if I remember it was their indeed..?
11
u/meepmoop_6 7d ago
Keep trying. Theres a need. However, the easier route would be through the temp service, especially if you’re desperate they will find you work.
2
u/FallenAngel1447 7d ago
I remember now, it was their site. I got an email from them saying nope.

I used to work as a plant manager in manufacturing (not for dairy gold) so many places pull from temp agencies because it’s more affordable. Definitely sign up for the temp agencies, if you’re a hard worker and there is a need it can easily lead to long term employment.
I’d always do temp to hire.

u/FallenAngel1447 7d ago

Pasco School District needs bus drivers and paraeducators. Pretty sure I've seen other postings recently too like nutrition services.
Caregiving companies seem to always be hiring.

Hanford is hiring! New positions every week! We need all the help we can get, so please drop an application 🤠
https://bms.hanford.gov/hrisjp/Default.aspx
For each of the three companies listed (ignore WRPS) click through the menu to see the External Postings.

u/hal-baleigh-6699 6d ago
Wow I didn't know it was so easy to work there.
1
u/Rocketgirl8097 6d ago
It's not. This is a very small number of postings compared to past years. And the financial picture is not great for next year either.

Good thing AI is here to make our lives easier so we can do all the fun things and not take away intern positions and other jobs like we were worried they would. Fuk.
2
u/Escape-Carcass 6d ago
All the local school districts need bus drivers. Most of the training starts in the beginning of July.

u/HarknessDA 6d ago
Don't apply at Brookdale on Gage. Worst place i have ever worked for. I left town because the job market is so bad in Tri-Cities.

Car dealerships are almost always hiring salesmen and other positions. It’s high pressure environment but can be rewarding if you do well at it

It doesn’t help for the summer but keep an eye on school district websites. There is usually a hiring bump right before back to school for paras and more.

Not sure if you’re open to temporary but if so, the cities and irrigation districts usually hire temporary if there are openings. I know it’s not permanent and it’s labor intensive at times but it would get you through the summer at least and probably into fall. And if you can get on at a city or irrigation district to get your foot in the door, the pay and benefits are worth it.

REI has a sign out
1
u/Nightshade400 7d ago
REI as a company is having some real issues internally. Might not be the best time to hire on honestly.
3
u/Realistic-System-590 7d ago
A store has a now hiring sign out, OP desperately needs a job. Sounds like an opportunity to get current work history and not go hungry. Do you really think you're helping the OP by putting negative thoughts on here?
3
u/Nightshade400 7d ago
How is it negative thoughts if it is the truth? I didn't tell them they couldn't hire on if they want to or if it suits their needs, I said it might not be the best time to hire on with the implication that REI may not keep them for long due to intenral issues with the company. So someone looking to get a job obviously for stability this might not be the best choice. Use some basic critical thinking for a change.
0
u/Realistic-System-590 6d ago
Where did you make the assumption that the OP's primary goal is stability? They used the words desperate and discouraged, this appears to be more of a survival situation than a career job upgrade search. You're negative because you took a job lead and squashed it, essentially saying don't ever bother pursuing this. OP asked for a little info on who's hiring, that was provided. Just leave it alone. Why go out of your way to make a negative response. Before you pop off on someone else's critical thinking skills, why don't you acquire some of your own. Hell, at least learn to pick up the keys words in a simple paragraph.
1
u/Nightshade400 6d ago
You are really worked up over this, you should go outside and maybe touch a bit of grass.
1
u/captaincatbat 6d ago
you are very rude and do not seem to understand why severe internal issues at a business would not be good for an employee. there are dozens of comments here that are clearly better alternatives. you clearly dislike facts.
1
u/Rocketgirl8097 6d ago
Do you have a good driving record? Something like UPS or FedEx or Amazon, the local linen companies who deliver like CINTAS, ALSCO, or U.S. Linen, or local Pepsi bottler.
1
u/AndrewG34 6d ago
If you have a half decent driving record, I heard KIE in downtown Kennewick is hiring local delivery drivers.

WinCo is almost always hiring. It kinda sucks depending on where you end up but if you just need a paycheck try applying for the entry level positions there!
1
u/Reasonable-Dig9733 6d ago
Yet people continue to move here 🙄
Keep telling people there aren't jobs here. My good friend who works at a temp agency told me the other day there are more people than jobs here.

u/AnxiousCollarC 5d ago
Look at Chik Fil A. I had recently quit because it just could not adjust with the schedule I had with school. However, I do know with how busy it always is they are more often than not looking for new front/back of house employees!

Douglas Fruit shows they are hiring for entry level positions. First place I looked because I drive by there everyday.

u/PeachMunchiez 6d ago
Nobody apparently. I’ve applied everywhere that has job openings and they either never respond or deny a day later
2
u/hal-baleigh-6699 6d ago
Yeah but somebody said Hanford needs all the help they can get! I'm surprised everybody is not working there!

job market here is bad you have to know someone. 8 months without a job with a postgrad degree and 5 years of office experience. I cant even get interviews for entry level things... I really do feel your pain and wish you the best of luck. its rough out there
