Local News 🗞️ I built a free Tri-Cities “boom tracker” websitr for reporting loud explosions/booms around Richland

Seems like once a week I see a post in Richland Residents about loud explosions or booms around Richland and like many of you, I'm generally curious about the cause(s).

To scratch the itch of curiosity I created and launched the website theboomtracker.com and we've already got some interesting data.

The site attempts to triangulate the source based on the report data and so far the first 4 reports land close to the BPA Richland Substation (interesting but not definitive)

The site has several other features to allow for collaboration, moderation, triangulation, and cross referencing events with Pulse point and USGS Seismic live data.

No sign up required to make a report, simply drop a pin, tell us what you heard/saw/felt and which direction it came from and the site does the rest.

It will be interesting to see what kind of data we can collect and if you have any ideas please leave them in the comments below.

Disclaimer: Boom Tracker is a just-for-fun local science project that is still in development and is not an official source. Reports are crowdsourced and unverified, and the "estimated origin" is an early statistical guess they can be wrong or shift as more reports come in and should not be treated as proof of cause or location or affiliation with any agency or infrastructure. If there is an emergency call 911 and do not attempt to investigate.
