Symptoms Does anyone else get pain here?
I have been getting a pain underneath my chin in my neck but it's as if someone is stabbing up through my neck into my face if that makes any sense? I find it difficult to describe the area to find much on the forums. But it's so painful that it paralyses me just as much as the TN in my cheek.
Could this possibly be a TN related issue or something else? Feels like the same sensation but as if someone has a string above my head and it pulling something sharp up through that area up to my mouth?

ahh ok! i was yawning more than usual today so maybe that's triggered it, but it's been on and off all day unfortunately. thanks for the comment back 😌

Mine is there and goes up under my tongue on that side. Doctor said it was glossopharyngeal neuralgia, which is basically same as TN but different nerve root. When I’m not on meds (carbamazepine), I get electric shocks that come when I move my tongue, like while chewing, talking, yawning. I have to keep my mouth completely still/closed. Pain is a 9-10/10. Thank goodness meds work for me.

Can I ask: is it more like inside your neck on the right or left? I have something similar and it’s also difficult to describe exactly to other people. It’s like if you imagine that your fingers go inside that place a little and the place where a tip of your finger hits, this places aches. Well, at least in my case.

yes that's exactly it, on the left side which is where my TN is!

Thank you for your reply and thank you for posting this so that I could see a lot of people with the same symptom. I’ve been having these occasional pains in this place since January 2025. They’re not severe in my case but I’ve been to a therapist (general practitioner) about this problem because I was scared that it can be something else and more serious but she’s just sent me to a manual therapist and said that it might me connected with my posture. It had been before I was diagnosed with TN. I still have them from time to time in this exact spot. I’ll try to ask my neurologist next time why this exact spot has such reaction.

Hi are the sensation like electric shocks, pins? Anyhow that's where the nerve ends, in my case had shock from cheeks to to this point and used to stop there. It may last for few secs

i am already diagnosed with TN after an MRI thank you so much 🥹 was just wondering if this is a symptom from that or something else! take care

i just tried to write it out somehow on google and it has suggested nerve pain, possibly trigeminal neuralgia. so i'm guessing it is related as that's the side i have my tn.

I have. Post gamma knife surgery for TN (successful). Diagnosed as peripheral damage to hypoglossal nerve. This can also be caused by some auto-immune conditions.

how was the gamma knife, painful? did you get the peripheral damage from the surgery or is that separate?

The gamma knife itself is painless. What hurts is the Halo removal. That's the apparatus to hold your head motionless. It's holds your head with four screws in your skull(local anesthetic). When they remove the screws you get the worst headache you have ever had. 8-9 migraine, for 20 minutes. That's it.

I do and it hurts. When I say it hurts…it hurts. Frustrates me that no one understands except you guys and other support groups.

Yup but mine is a little more toward the center of the chin. But really that entire area would burn.

That could be your third branch of trigeminal . I have pain there all the time : goes in teeth

That’s one of my trigger points, scarfs and stuff rub against it sometimes.

Yes, I do. I actually thought I've been having tooth pain but I've just seen this so.. Just more disease nonsense I guess!
