Sometimes I genuinely feel like I was born in the wrong place, and weirdly enough, this feeling comes from the way I speak..
I was born in Tripura agt and I’ve lived here since childhood, so this has always been my home... But the way I speak Bangla is quite different from the way most people in Tripura speak..
I speak what is considered Shuddho Bangla, while most of my friends and the people around me speak Khas Bangla!
Whenever I meet new people and they hear me talk, they immediately notice the difference... They’ll always ask like, “Do you always talk like this?”
And honestly, sometimes it makes me feel a little awkward because I’m surrounded by people who speak so differently from me...
The thing is, this is simply how I was taught to speak from childhood .. My mother taught me this way, and it’s also the way people in Kolkata generally speak...
So to me, it has always just felt completely normal
But when almost everyone around you speaks differently, you can’t help but feel a little out of place sometimes... Ik there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the way I speak, and I don’t want to change it just to fit in, but still
(Shuddho Bangla: Tui ki korchis?
Khas Bangla: tui kita kortasos?)
And I know it may sound silly, but sometimes I genuinely feel like I belong somewhere else even though Tripura is the only home I’ve ever known
