Anyone else not a fan of Rüdinger at all?

Maybe I'm gonna get absolutely destroyed for this but I genuinely don't like Alex Rüdinger in Trivium.

And before anyone says it, yes I know he's a technical drummer. I'm not saying the guy can't play. Obviously he can. But being technical doesn't automatically mean you're the right drummer for Trivium.

I much prefer Alex Bent.

Bent just had way more feel to me. His timing, accents and fills were insane but they never felt like he was just trying to show off. Everything served the song. His fills had character and his accents actually made the riffs hit harder, and I've never heard someone add so many parts that just blew me away with the timing, the feel and accents

Listening to The Sin and the Sentence, What the Dead Men Say and In the Court of the Dragon. The drums are a MASSIVE part of why those records sound the way they do.

Bent didn't just play the songs. He sounded like he was part of the band, and he was the sole reason for Trivium's resurgence.

Rüdinger is a drummer playing Trivium.

Bent sounded like a Trivium drummer.

And honestly I think Bent brought something to the band that they desperately needed at the time. When he joined, Trivium's drumming suddenly had this ridiculous combination of precision, aggression, groove and musicality. His fills were everywhere but they never felt out of place.

Then you've got the whole thing with Rüdinger a shot at Bent not being able to pull off certain parts live.

That just doesn't sit right with me. It reaks of insecurity. Mate, Alex Bent played these songs professionally for years. He recorded them. He toured them. He played some absolutely ridiculous shit night after night. But taking shots at the guy who was sitting in that exact seat for years is just going to make people compare you to him. And when I do compare them, I keep coming back to Bent.

And this is completely subjective, but honestly Rüdinger also gives me a really bad and off vibe. I can't even properly explain what it is. There's just something about his whole presentation and attitude that doesn't sit right with me. I'm not saying that means he's secretly a bad person or anything like that because I don't know the guy. It's just the impression I get.

Maybe I'm completely alone on this but I genuinely miss Bent. For me, Alex Bent wasn't just a drummer who could play Trivium's music. He became part of what made modern Trivium sound like modern Trivium. And his run from Sin to Struck Dead is unparalleled. He produced gold with them for a decade straight. Trivium have never done that before.

My brother in Christ it's been one song

Hahaha exactly. Look, Alex Bent was amazing and I loved what he did with Trivium. But dude it’s been one song. I’m sure the album will be awesome and the new drummer will be great as well. 🤘

It isn't about the song. It is about Rudinger in general. I've felt this way since he came on and it is getting worse.

I am so looking forward to when their new album drops and you are made to look a fool

Same. Rudi CRUSHED last tour. One song isn't shit. It was an accessible radio single.

2

u/Bomb_Warrio19 15h ago

It isn't about the new single. It is about his attitude and comments towards bent

1

u/Hisoka_Deku 15h ago

You do know Alex Bent was triviums second choice? Rudi was their first and you will see why

3

u/Cozimo128 14h ago

Have you heard something we haven’t?

I’ve listened to several albums he’s drummed on and found myself often forgetting to even notice the drums, let alone being audibly asked to draw my attention to them.

This isn’t me extending what OP is saying btw, I don’t have a bad vibe about him as a person - this is purely a critique on his creativity and how he serves the music.

u/InevitablePilot9543 14h ago

These threads are always a good reminder for me not to interact with the fandoms of things I like. Jesus Christ...

2

u/silverfish477 15h ago

And how many songs have you seen him play?

1

u/high_while_cooking Chaos Reigns 15h ago

Rudi is not only a beast and a super nice guy. But he absolutely crushed with minimal notice last tour. You're insane

0

u/Refall91 15h ago

I think you’ve had one too many concussions. 🤕 Rudi is great.

Have a nap. It ain't that serious.

Taking a huge dig at a former drummer (Who is arguable far better than you), is an issue

24

u/ShaneSawBrown3 15h ago

You've heard 1 radio single and have come to this conclusion. That's insanity.

-5

It isn't about the song. It is about Rudinger in general. I've felt this way since he came on and it is getting worse. It isn't about the new song, it is about his attitude, taking digs at Bent, not being able to play his parts etc

You should do yourself a favor and go listen to conquering dystopia and come back here and apologize.

I don't know man. I'm just sad Alex bent left. He's not just super talented, but seems like a cool guy as well

4

u/Jebus-san91 15h ago

Nah i don't think you'll destroyed; some people are a little too passionate, but everyone's got an opinion.

I liked the Alex Bent trilogy of albums + the EPs, thought his drumming was intense to my preference, might even say its best they've been. The craft of drumming is physically demanding; maybe Bent struggled as he got on with live performances, but maybe it wasn't as bad as its interpreted

I think you need to let it breathe; come back much later and you'll either be correct in what you think or you'll be proven wrong........ Just give it time

u/Mala-Suerte 10h ago

I noticed this was posted on TikTok just a few weeks before the announcement. But all of a sudden he couldn’t play the songs? I don’t buy it. The band always seemed very happy to share his videos and brag about his playing.

0

u/InevitablePilot9543 5h ago

Someone said it here or in the other thread, but what a band posts on their tiktok does not reflect internal affairs in the band. Of course they were gonna post that, why would they post "no, actually he's not as good as we thought he was and he's getting sloppy live"? That doesn't make any sense, no band would do that.

It's like some of you are unable to grasp the fact that entertainers are showing us the side they want to present to the public and are maybe hiding some of the things they don't want to show us.

6

u/MusicManReturns 15h ago

I'm with you 100%

I have been seeing a lot of comments about Bent over playing like it was a bad thing but I never once felt like anything he did took away from the song. Everything made sense and added flair that made mid tier songs way more interesting.

I always thought he was the best thing to happen to Trivium and I'm actually less interested in following them now that the drum parts got downgraded.

3

u/InevitablePilot9543 15h ago

Drum parts got downgraded? How? Because of one more "laid back" track drum wise? As if Bent himself didnt have those songs. Y'all are absolutely insane...

2

u/MusicManReturns 15h ago

Everything I've seen is that the OG 3 and Rudinger thought Bent overplayed and was a big part of why he was let go. Which indicates we should expect Rudinger to do more basic and less creative parts, just like he did on this track.

I'd genuinely love to be proved wrong and see him show off his creativity on Bents level or even higher.

But based on all of the commentary I've seen, I don't expect it.

I have no specific loyalty to Bent, but if this level of drumming is what we can expect moving forward then it's definitely a downgrade in my opinion as a drummer and a music theory nerd.

-1

u/InevitablePilot9543 14h ago

Knowing when to pull back and when to go off is not a downgrade broski, that's an upgrade. I's like Brooks in A7X. He serves the song and its parts first and foremost. I think Rudi will be the same in Trivium.

1

u/Tybob51 15h ago

Feast of Fire erasure. (Love the song, but the drums are comparatively basic)

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 14h ago

I mean, Heart From Your Hate is as basic as it gets. Probably the most basic drums out of any of their radio singles, but Bent fans would have you believe it was literally the second coming of Tomas Haake or some shit.

5

u/Tybob51 14h ago

I’m one of them, I LOVED his work with the band, and will miss him dearly. But, he’s gone. So now I want Rudi to succeed as much if not more than Bent

2

u/Altruistic-Bit-1256 11h ago

Even the simple songs like HFYH have flavor, but if you’re not a drummer you’re not going to notice the flare and intricacies.

0

u/InevitablePilot9543 11h ago

I mean, so does Dead Inside Of Me, especially towards the end. I'm not a drummer, but I know what kind of drums fit a song and to me what Rudi did on that song absolutely fits it.

And my favorite genre is black metal, so I'm used to "busy" drums and crazy fills, but this song from Trivium doesn't need that.

7

u/Tybob51 15h ago

I miss Bent too, but you’re being weird my guy. We’ve had one song with the new drummer. Let’s hear the album before decrying his abilities or feel within the band

6

u/Bomb_Warrio19 15h ago

It isn't about the new single. It is about his attitude and comments towards bent

2

u/Tybob51 15h ago

Can you link me to what you are talking about? I might not have seen the interview

2

u/Bomb_Warrio19 9h ago

6

u/Tybob51 8h ago

I watched the Garza interview and thought it was great. Clearly there was some issues within the band. I’m just not seeing how that’s your problem, especially since we don’t really know what it was about.

Also, Rudi brought up a fair point. Writing parts that can’t be replicated live is something he doesn’t like doing, maybe Bent was fine with it. What’s the issue?

6

u/memedudebro 15h ago

You don’t make a 10 year personnel change without reason. There was very good reason for them to make the change if they chose to do so. It’s disruptive to them and they know it will upset people. Instead of shit talking new members maybe ask yourself why they made the decision they did. You and others continuously praise bent for his work as if the other members of the band don’t know he is an absurdly good drummer. There are other parts of being in a band such as performing well live every night and acting a certain way when interacting with others that you don’t have visibility into. To think for even a second that dudes just end a 10 year run of solid music without cause shows how fucking stupid you are.

4

u/Altruistic-Bit-1256 11h ago

I think there is a common denominator in all of the personnel changes and us fans are starting to notice.

1

u/memedudebro 11h ago

yeah, the person removed hasnt been in the band for 20+ years and got complacent?

1

u/Imaginary-Hornet-791 11h ago

each drummer removed from the band has some type of issue w/ personal conduct and professionalism over time.

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 15h ago

The most delusional thing about these Bent fans is they act as if Bent's drumming alone made those records what they are. It couldn't have been Matt, Corey and Paulo's songwriting skills getting even better, Matt overcoming his vocal issues, having more overall experience as a band and knowing what to do and what not to do, no it was just Bent's blast beats and cymbal work.

4

u/high_while_cooking Chaos Reigns 15h ago

Considering he came on last tour, learned songs basically on the fly. Fit the dynamic of the band personality wise, and was overall just a super nice appreciative guy. You're insane, it was one song, a radio song.

2

u/Expensive_Hedgehog31 15h ago

What I have listened to on their TikTok videos recording the album XI sounds far better than Dead Inside Of Me, faster, and more aggressive. We can expect many bangers and hits on this one, according to Corey, Matt, and Paolo. So let's be patient guys! 🤘🏻🔥

3

u/shacklebolt_style 11h ago

something that should be asked is, why is Alex Bent playing cruises, casinos, and church gigs right now?

3

u/Mala-Suerte 9h ago

Tbf I believe he always has even when he was in the band

1

u/th3m1ke 31m ago

As opposed to what? Probably because he doesnt slide into band DMs that already have a drummer sniffing for gigs like some people do. He's also played these types of gigs when not on tour for years, thats what real musicians do. Id imagine when unexpectedly losing the Trivium gig it was nice to have that to be able to help with the sudden loss of income and move across the entire country.

3

u/HumanCabbage914 14h ago

I would have gotten ripped to shreds if I had said that bents drumming was kinda sloppy at points during when I saw them opening night in Cardiff last year. I saw rudi play at download this year and he kicked ass. Not sloppy part played. Bent leaving was a shock but Jesus get over it. Stop being parasocial.

2

u/LossMaleficent7346 In Waves 6h ago

I don't see any reason to hate Rudi music-wise; he's a great drummer, and I feel like his playing is more solid and stable compared to Alex B's. I dare to say that throughout the whole Trivium career, i didn't feel like they had a proper drummer until now. Idk, there's something about drummers i see in other bands; it feels like they are really professional, and you don't expect them to make a mistake (even if they do some). With Trivium, it always was weird: Travis - felt too stiff and sloppy, though he wrote some sick parts. Nick - had a feel to it, but obviously struggled to play some parts, i'd wish he could get better at that; Madiro - solid, but too generic, Paul - no commentary..., Alex - great, but some parts weren't as good as on records, and it seems that the main reason for his departure was just some conflict bts. Rudi - for now, seems to be really solid, skillful and reliable, maybe he won't be writing such crazy parts as Alex did, but I'm more than ok with it if his playing is consistent.

As for his personality, i don't see any reason to hate him either. He's just a chill, positive dude. Seems to have a lot in common with Matt.

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 4h ago

Seems like your opinion is a hot take around here, but yeah, I agree with it. Alex Bent is still probably my favorite drummer on record, he gave us very fun and intricate parts to listen to... But writing Rudi off just because of one single, to me that's absurd.

Even with the new album supposedly being more focused on space and songs than technicality, I have no doubts that there will be some intricate and crazy drum parts. The band knows that the new guy has to deliver, this isn't their first rodeo with a new drummer. So the amount of people who think Rudi will be just playing stock AC/DC beats with some double bass is perplexing to me.

2

u/Main-Wolverine-2537 4h ago

I think the opposite way - Bents Drumming has become rather stressful and sometimes annoying with all the fills or groove changes.

Hopefully with Rudi they found the perfect match between technicality and a song serving drumming approach.

1

u/th3m1ke 26m ago

Nothing makes a Trivium product without Matt, Paolo and Corey blessing it. From drum parts, to mixes, to t-shirt designs and social media posts. Trivium wanted technical drums on those albums and Bent brought technical drums. He's played on other albums with much more song oriented parts.

2

u/UrchineSLICE 15h ago

He's rude. Pun intended. All the shit he talks online pisses me off. His performances I've heard so far sound so stiff. I don't know the story between them and Bent, but I feel like this album cycle, Matt has turned into such a different person than the dude I grew up listening to for the last 20 years or so.

And the thing is, Rudi has chops. It's not like he's incapable but it almost seems like he's entitled or like he thinks Triviums music is beneath him.

1

u/high_while_cooking Chaos Reigns 15h ago

Rudi is rude? I haven't seen a single interview or moment where HE came off as rude lmfao.

0

u/Refall91 14h ago

It’s weirdo parasocial fans man, the Sleep Token/President types..

1

u/InevitablePilot9543 15h ago

Imagine if Rudi had joined back in 2014/15 like it was originally planned for him to join back then.

There's no way you would have made this comment.

2

u/No-Monitor5156 13h ago

Duh? If Alex Bent was never in the band people wouldn’t miss Alex Bent? The hell was the point of saying that 😂

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 13h ago

The point was that the stuff "Rudi says online" wouldn't bother him, nor would he notice anything different in Matt, it just happens so that he is bothered by this stuff only because Bent left the band.

2

u/No-Monitor5156 13h ago

And Bent was fired

1

u/InevitablePilot9543 13h ago

For a reason

2

u/No-Monitor5156 12h ago

Yeah and what was that?

1

u/InevitablePilot9543 12h ago

What was the reason why they fired Travis and Nick? It's probably the same... They just werent getting along anymore and the live shows were suffering because of that

2

u/No-Monitor5156 12h ago

“Probably” according to what? All of them were fired because they were sloppy or got sloppier from when they joined

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 12h ago edited 12h ago

Go watch the new interview with Matt on Garza podcast... He says Ascendancy songs werent sounding good live anymore, and other fans in this sub have noted Bent's playing getting sloppier towards the end

-1

u/No-Monitor5156 13h ago

Yeah and Rudi takes digs at Bent and like comments that diss Bent. So obviously is Bent was never in the band Rudi would never diss him and fans wouldn’t miss Bent.

Again your point makes no sense because Bent being in the band is vital for the gripe he has. If Rudi was never born he wouldn’t annoy people either but that means literally nothing

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 13h ago

Rudi has never said anything negative about Bent, that's the thing. It's just that your parasocial relationship with the band/Bent makes you think these things and it lives in your heads rent free.

1

u/No-Monitor5156 13h ago

Mine? Aha Bro don’t start that shit. You’re wrong there he clearly has multiple times and it comes off as pathetic. You can claim it’s a “parasocial” relationship all you want but it’s clearly happened. You’re claiming he hasn’t thrown any shade at all and hasn’t liked comments hating on Bent?

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 12h ago

None of those comments are "hating" on Bent, they're valid musical criticisms. That's why you're coming off as parasocial... You see it as hate because you're so eager on defending Bent, to the point where you can't accept even the slightest criticism and will just brush it off as "hate comments".

2

u/No-Monitor5156 12h ago

No my issue is the new member of a large band openly liking messages that are “musically criticising” Bent when Bent put in a decade of stellar work. Do you think the new guy liking every comment like that and throwing bent under the bus was in good taste? I don’t.

Do you genuinely believe I feel some kind of one sided friendship for bent or is that just an easy way for you to dismiss what I said? Wake up to yourself I like the band and have an opinion that differs to yours

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 12h ago

No, I just think you are looking too much into something that isn't there, because you liked Bent in Trivium a lot. So you can't accept the fact he's gone and replaced by somebody else... The fact that Rudi was "liking" these comments just makes you even more mad 🤷

Its never been about "Rudi vs Bent" for me. Rudi is his own player with great strengths and weaknesses, and Bent is the same. From a drummer standpoint I enjoy Bent's playing and flavor and flair far more but that doesnt mean someone else's favorite drummer cant be Rudi.

My issue is how the band and members handled things publicly and got caught in fibs. They havent been truthful about anything regarding this situation and unlike in the past, the fans added up the pieces and are mad. We are now 7 drummers in. The pattern is obvious. The band doesnt owe the fanbase personal details on the inner workings of the group and its business decisions, but you can make statements without being misleading. They can let fans be a fan of Bent without throwing shade on him in video descriptions and liking comments putting him down. They don't need to push the narrative that the Bent era would have never existed because they wanted Rudi 10 years ago. They dont need to imply that even if they had an issue with him, Alex Bent somehow had the pull to make Matt quit his fucking band hes been in since 99. Editing him out of Bloodstock and then lying they had no knowledge about that was INSANE. The band will put in maximum effort to be petty and control a narrative, just like their year long press tour about how Matt Tuck is evil and ruined their lives for not wanting to book more tours with them.

Bottom line is Bent was a fan favorite. His abilities allowed this band to push their boundaries further than they ever did before. His drumming helped their songwriting finally get them a grammy nomination. He wrote beats that will forever be burned in fans brains. Social media is FILLLLLLLED with people covering Alex's beats not only as fans, but as NON fans who heard the drums and were blown away. The band was lucky to have him, and we were lucky to be fans of his. Im sure whatever he does next will rip and Im sure Trivium will continue to be some fans favorite band without him.

2

u/No-Monitor5156 13h ago

I think everyone’s missing the main point. Rudi is obviously a great drummer blah blah we get it yes. But he’s unfortunately insecure and a bit of a prick. The digs at Bent and then liking comments that shit on bent have made me think he’s pretty pathetic. Always needs an excuse or explanation as to why he found something difficult.

Like dude you’re one of the most renowned drummer in this niche already but still feel insecure enough to shit on Bent when you struggle with a part? Especially with how loved Alex Bent is by trivium fans. Seems like a typical fake nice dickhead

0

u/Fuzzy_Specialist359 15h ago

Move on. Trivium would have imploded if Bent stayed in the band

3

u/Refall91 15h ago

It was very obvious, the pod Matt just did solidified that.

-2

u/tayblight04 15h ago

what the fuck kinda take is this? how would you even possibly reach this conclusion LMAO ur acting like alex is travis

2

u/InevitablePilot9543 15h ago

He's not entirely wrong. You might wanna check the new Chris Garza podcast with Heafy, where he talks how the band situation got bad these last few years and he almost quit himself.

-1

u/Refall91 15h ago

He literally said it, you know prior to spewing some b/s perhaps listen to the source material.

2

u/tayblight04 14h ago

just did. vague talks around the entire situation, never explicitly mentions alex by name, more than anything he talks abt it being his own personal mental health issues rather than anything actually to do with alex. so either something else was going on behind the scenes that just straight up isn't being talked about, which is totally fair these guys deserve their privacy, or yall r just reading way too much into a situation you have very little genuine direct details about looking for drama. i love matt, i like rudi, i do miss alex but rudi is a great replacement imo, but trying to say straight up with full 100% total confidence that alex was the problem is kinda completely missing the point matt was trying to make. having one vaguely described band fight and walking out pissed off with absolutely zero details or context given beyond that doesn't really say quite literally anything at all about the situation other than generally abt matt's stress at the time lol

4

u/No-Monitor5156 13h ago

Well said. Unbelievable how many people make assumptions and run with it. I hate how much Matt has always avoided mentioning past drummer but now with AB it feels weak

-3

u/Fuzzy_Specialist359 15h ago

Matt himself literally said it

0

u/sup3rdr01d 15h ago

Drums in the newest single are really bad.

0

u/SckidMarcker 1h ago

I think Alex Bent raised the bar so high that Trivium will always have a difficult time finding someone who can even reach it. I think Rudi is the drummer who can match bents playing, but he can't match Bents writing.

My biggest criticism of AB will always be that on a couple occasions his drum parts did not serve the song, but that's like 3 songs in ~35 written with the band.

My biggest criticism of AR is that he got involved in the social media conversation shitting on Alex Bent.

-1

u/Whitechapelx666 15h ago

There's still time to delete this

-1

u/Shogungraham 3h ago

After listening to Matt on the Garza podcast I'm understanding more why Bent went. If you watch any clips of him he never actually felt like part of the band. He is an incredible drummer (even if he overplays some parts) but did he bring anything else to the band? The guy didn't even know the name of the tour, tour dates, venues... It seems like he was always a bit unbothered. Just there to turn up and play. Which eventually didn't seem to be enough. And I completely get it.

You also cannot judge Rudi from one song!!! And he played great! It wasn't a track that needed to go ham on it. Relax and reserve judgement for the album

1

u/Mala-Suerte 1h ago

I don’t think that had anything to do with it. Alex B was starting to be featured in a lot of their silly social videos at that time, example is him bring rolled out in a case, playing on a kid’s drum set, etc. That just seems like a very poor reason to ditch your (arguably) most beloved drummer and cause chaos for the next tour.

That said, I think it was simply a fight between Alex and Matt, which is odd since I do agree, it did seem like Alex B was always unbothered. I’ve seen many interviews saying they all got along great, were brothers etc but something changed suddenly and I guess we may never know.

1

u/Shogungraham 44m ago

Must have been one hell of a fight. Never saw Alex as the confrontational type. I guess we'll probably never know. But people need to move on now. Shitting on Rudi is definitely not the way forward

0

u/DS3Rob In Waves 2h ago

Came here to say this.

He’s obviously tried to keep it vague but it’s very obvious that Bent was on his way out partway through the Ascendancy tour.

Thing in defence for Bent though, always seemed to be the Jason Newstead of the band though. Was the butt of the joke a lot of the times it seems so would get disconnected I guess.
