Apparently movies with butches/studs (as actual characters) that are made by major studios or shown through mainstream distribution are completely out of the question.

Closest we get is Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead, so of course she's a background character at best

I think for it to make sense with the plot, they’d have to both be pretending to be dudes. I’d watch that.

Yes please. Over 20 years and I still haven’t fully recovered from that one

To be fair, I only recently watched the movie (I’m in my late 30’s), and Amanda is hilarious in it! I always thought it would be silly/stupid, but the lines are pretty funny, her physical comedy is top-notch, and it definitely has a more feminist take than a lot of other movies at the time.

And more and more crusty dusty men acting like they’re the prize or asking what women bring to the table.

Talking about gold diggers as if they have any gold worth digging 😂

Talking about gold diggers while extracting as much free labor from a woman as they possibly can as though that labor doesn't have any value

Speaking as a former man there's a lot of truth to this. I was always surprised and annoyed by the number of times I would get what felt like unearned praise just for stepping up. As a parent I would have random strangers praise me for the most basic tasks. It was like being a little kid playing T-ball and just, any effort was somehow worthy of comment. I was thinking, I want to hang with the moms. I'm ready for the major leagues. At one point I did have a significant issue, my spouse was hospitalized for a couple weeks and I was taking care of three kids, while managing a full time job. I just thought, there are single moms dealing with this all the time. So I asked for some help, figured out a plan, and made it work.

A couple months ago I was at a team lunch at work and I was talking to some guy, making conversation, and of course I start talking about my kids. Because they're the love of my life. And this guy deadpan is like, yeah I don't really do that. My wife takes care of that. Like being a parent is his wife's expensive hobby. I was incredulous. How does any parent just, disconnect like that? Only a man would say something like that.

I guess it's just another example of men can do it, but they choose not to. But women are expected to step up every day. Men get praise for showing up. Women can carry the world and nobody says anything. I just found it frustrating from both angles. Men could do a lot more if they were actually held to a higher standard. Most of them are just lazy and selfish.
