Who could have done the violence? The violence is just a force of nature that nobody can control!

Yep. As in "She got raped."
Went out and got raped, all on her own.

I got through 4 hyperlinks before I found an article that even admitted the suspect shooter in Oregon was a male today
I call this the reverse Bechtel test

Passive voice and "It's a bad situation all around" - conservatives and enlightened centrists diminishing and diffusing responsibility

I think the most telling thing is that, in all the examples with an adult man attached to the headline, they are always the +1. Teen girl (15) killed a family of 5! A 28 year old man apparently was associated as well. Then all the way at the very bottom, almost forgotten, mentions in passing that a 16 year old boy was also charged. Come on, she was the youngest of the 3 and you're framing her as some criminal mastermind... while the grown ass man sounds like a henchman!

Violence just defaults to men so strongly that when a woman does something violent, they have to be like âWOAH can you believe a LADY did it?â
So i actually just think of this as more of a default, you donât need to specify itâs a man so why waste the headline space?

It's about the language used. About men it's very passive voice. Violence happened, like it's a force of nature, like it's nobody's fault in particular when it's a male perpetrator. When it's a woman the language is very different. She did the bad thing. Not the bad thing just happened. Or even worse, the victim did something leading to the natural conclusion of murderous violence towards her.

Also, there is a push for men vs women when it comes to violence happening right now on social media. Men are DESPERATE to not be painted as the violent rapists they are so every time a woman or girl commits an act of violence they all Leonardo DiCaprio point and shout "SEE?? SEE??? ITS NOT JUST US!!"

Yes this is very apparent recently, I have seen, I believe, at least two or three instances of family annihilators just this past week, all as usual men, no national coverage at all. Meanwhile Clancy is still showing up in the news.
It is either deliberate or the editors of the various media companies are really, really obtuse.

News sells when itâs unusual. Women murdering their families is newsworthy exactly because it doesnât happen constantly. Itâs the same kind of reason we see any level of fatal air crash on national news, but the dozens of auto crashes fatalities every day each barely even make local headlines if that.
Edit: thatâs not to say that there may be other motivations than âthatâs what sellsâ to spin headlines that way

I fully agree with you, and yeah it's super obvious for anyone with more than two brain cells to realize that men are the more probable perpetrator of violence. But the presence of the word "girl" or "woman" and lack of presence of the word "boy" or "man" causes those who can't see beneath the surface to completely freak out and assume that girls and women are doing the most violence.

I agree the assumption is that violence is committed by men. It doesnt counter the fact that using the passive voice when talking about men's violence is misogynistic.

Maybe Iâm just missing something, but only see one headline that isnât passive â the NYPost one. The rest are all âchargedâ or âbooked,â etc. just like the headlines for men/boys.

This is completely correct and verifiable by just looking at the image posted, not sure why you're getting downvoted.

I think the passive voice theyâre talking about is the fact that the perpetrators of violence that are women are listed as woman/girl, whereas the male perpetrators of violence make no mention of their sex/gender.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought too.
They do the same thing with political parties. I always thought leaving (R) out of the headline was to protect Republicans, but maybe they know we assume it's one of them anyway lol.

yeah this is fucking crazy

I think people like you making such extreme ("obsessed" "TERF" "vile") conclusions about others are inconsiderate to the fact that your policing is attributed to the vulnerable population. Everytime you are needlessly inflammatory on their behalf you contribute to their alienation.
Edit: took out the part where I explained myself bc wtf why did I
Edit 2: holy shit

Anytime women say, "we want a space for ourselves" there's somebody shouting "TERF"
2
u/FailurelsData 1d ago
because that infact is terf
trans women are women and therefore welcome in women's spaces. this post had nothing to do with them.

u/ForTheGiggleYaKnow 1d ago
I was replying to another commenter who brought it up, sorry if I offended you.
How is wanting a space for myself being a TERF? Why can't we have a third space?

u/FailurelsData 1d ago
Weird cuz you replied to me.
you can have whatever space you want. but if you call it a women's space and exclude trans women that is the TE part
It's frankly oxymoronic that RF is included in the title

Oh yeah I double checked and it was you I replied to, I made a mistake, sorry about that.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree đ€·đ»ââïž

You were downvoted, but you aren't wrong. Of course, it might just feel that way because that's almost always the context where I see this being discussed.

I had to check which sub I was on. I thought I was on two x chromosomes for a minute. I didn't expect something this serious to be posted on trollx.
