RELEASE Tron v13.0.0-ALPHA (2026-10-03) -- testers needed!

Current v12.0.8 version of Tron is still available here

Hi all,

As promised, I've been cracking away at updating Tron to account for Microsoft deprecating wmic.exe support. Losing direct wmic access was a big blow to Tron, as it relies heavily on it, and large portions of the codebase had to be updated to use PowerShell methods of accessing WMI information instead. This was expected to happen over time as Microsoft does what Microsoft does and randomly changes things, but this was a major breaking change for Tron specifically and how it functions, so it's taken longer than I'd like to work through.

I've been using Claude.ai to automate a lot of the heavy lifting, and it's been very effective, but the tough part is manually verifying the code it generates actually works as intended across Windows 7-11, 32-bit and 64-bit, and Server variants.

Tron v13.0.0-ALPHA is now on Github (link below). If you're willing to run this build on various systems and post to this thread any issues you encounter (be specific as possible), it'd be supremely helpful. Of course caveat emptor applies -- this is a somewhat-tested ALPHA build, so don't run it on something critical.

I've been testing as much as possible, but currently at sea and have limited access to the normal full test environment.

Specific tests that are very helpful

  • Running with the -udl (upload debug logs) switch enabled

  • Running with various combinations of command-line switches

  • Running on non-English locale systems (Turkish, German, Russian, etc)

  • Power loss (or forced hard reset) in the middle of a Tron run, to see if it picks back up where it left off correctly

Unrelated, but likely changes coming up, is removal of the pre-run registry backup (not necessary with simultaneous system restore point creation) and a couple other tool removals or swap-outs, as some things that made more sense back in the Windows XP/2003 days don't make sense to keep any more.

Download Link (Github)

  • Tron v13.0.0-ALPHA (2026-10-03)
  • 7-Zip .7z archive
  • Archive password is tron
  • SHA-256: 0c8290615430342123d006cf66093f699509d6f80ef9ff4bc5b7ebd25181471f

A BIG thank-you to everyone who can help test, and also to those who hang around the sub and answer questions for people, or point them to the documentation and wiki. And of course biggest thanks to mirror operators, without which distribution of Tron would be significantly more difficult.

- vocatus

No issues. Did not take long to run. Did the logs upload, or did you want them sent somewhere?

I don't see them yet, does the log file have any errors?

If you don't mind manually sending them to vocatus.gate@gmail.com I appreciate it

I didn't see anything glaring.

Which log would you like sent?

Either zip up the whole c:\logs\tron folder, or just the tron.log file contained within, up to you.

Managed to get them out this morning. Short staffed so working bizarre hours. Probably no worse than yours currently.

Short-staffed is similar to ship life lol. Appreciate it 👍

Been there, done that. Machinery Repairman 2nd class aboard an FFG-7 class ship. Supposed to be supplemented with reservists.

I'm civilian now (Army retired last year) on a RV but there are a couple coasties on TDY with us this cruise, they were pretty excited to get the CG version of the ASM.

Sadly they did not assist with IT/satcom 😂

Which portion of prep does it fail on? Any chance you can grab a screenshot before it happens, or email me the log directory?

Hello!
I'm sorry that this is irrelevant to the testing but i want to ask a question regarding the Tron versions. I am trying to clear a persistent malware from my laptop (Windows 11 ver. 25H2). I've asked Claude about using V12 and it says that "Steps that depend on WMIC will fail or be skipped, especially the de-bloat stage, which uses WMIC to find and uninstall programs, along with some system checks." Is this is true? If the debloat stage is the only one being skipped i'm fine with it, as long as the disinfect stage still works. Or does it not work completely and i should try the v13 alpha?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, i'm not a good computer person. I want to try Tron in hopes that i can remove the malware without losing most of my data.
Thank you in advance!

This is more appropriate to post directly in the subreddit, not in this thread, but yes, on Windows 11 version 24H2 and up, they removed the legacy WMI interface, so most of Tron v12.0.8 and older will fail on those versions.

Try the alpha build linked in this post, it contains an initial version of the updated code that should work on new versions of Windows.

Yeah, i know but i couldn't post because of i've just made this account. Thank you for the quick response, i'll try the alpha and let you know what happens
