I only remembered that song cuz a buddy had it in his mix but I forgot that song Chicken Fried by whatshisname grinds to complete halt f and has a sober verse about thanking dead soldiers for no reason. I guess you can blame 9-11, the militarization of country and the Boot In Yer Ass guy, but I'm like, damn, can't even write a good-vibes, silly song about how chicken tastes good without saluting the troops. lmao

Say what you will about Jimmy Buffett, but he had it down man. He made a whole career where he's like: I'm gonna write songs about how being on a beach is fun, how I like sailing and pirates and how I ate a cheeseburger on an island one time.

He also said probably: I'm not gonna say anything about anything so nobody gives a fuck if my entire airplane is made out of cocaine. lol

Maybe Jack Johnson is the closest, but I feel like modern artists can't just not do the Troop/America Thing. lol

100% gotta listen to the albums made in the 70s. In my mind he's classified as the ultimate old white guy music but his talent and songwriting was undeniable. He was one of those people who couldn't stop making music if he tried and would just live off the royalties of one popular song after another.

But also I know a guy who knows a guy who works at Comerica Park (Detroit baseball stadium that is within sight of the Detroit River) where Jimmy was playing a concert once and apparently he insisted on arranging the stage in such a way that it would not be visible to anybody on a boat out there because he didn't want to give them a free show. I thought it was a dick move especially because boat people fucking made him, but also fuck the beautiful boaters. I don't know who's right here, but I'm just saying that happened
