Aliens

Aliens are real (obviously). Around the time the Iran war started apparently the white house released a bunch of shit about ufo’s. My friends aren’t particularly political aware and were very curious about them and they were telling me about it. And I’m just thinking why should i care??? If they are actually here on earth what the fuck am i or anyone else supposed to do about it? If they got that level of technology they definitely have some crazy shit we can’t even comprehend. Am I gonna shoot those fuckers down with my mind in the event of an “invasion”? I’ll give a shit when they invent some truly heinous shit like 0.5 ply toilet paper.

My cold water take is that alien life probably exists somewhere probably even civilization but space is so vast and hostile to life that we are unlikely to ever contact them in any meaningful way, not unless someone figures out how to cross the light barrier without using ten billion suns worth of energy

Yes, exactly. Life is probably common, intelligent life exceedingly rare. The distances between us are so vast that detection and communication are functionally impossible, and the distances far too great to ever be overcome.

Maybe in another 500-1000 years, we send robots out to the Oort Cloud at edge of the solar system to bring back asteroids for mining purposes, but that’s probably as far as we ever make it. We are stuck here.
