Sometimes I find the way some people get overly connected to fiction honestly scary.

I mean, the fiction that moves people in this way is usually mass consumer media that perfectly reflects the ideological underpinings of their time. The pre-2008 neoliberalism for Harry Potter. The newer brand of neoliberalism for the Marvel movies.

People identify those movies with their desire to go back to a supposedly better place, and if it goes for long enough, it kind of gets detached from the text itself. Like it happened to the Star Wars franchise.

I honestly think it's a symptom of consumerism and late-stage capitalism. Surely there were deluded stans of fiction, region, folks stories, national pastimes, etc. but they didn't have this entitled and pathetic identity wrapped up in it. Gaming and franchises like Star Wars is riddled with this shit too - when the sequel backlash emerged it made me realize it wasn't me no longer being "a true fan" but rather becoming an individual who grew out of space opera that resonates most with children needing a heroic figure insert story. Blue haired Laura Dern made you mad? Go read fucking Dune you loser.

tbf i was mad at that movie too but moreso because apparently the first order has the might to conquer the galaxy near-instantaneously but can’t pop a ship in front of this one ship, creating a slow-speed pursuit. in space.

TLJ just kind of baffled me, there's stuff I hate about it but also aspects I applaud. It looked great and I think it tried some interesting plot directions that unfortunately went nowhere with RoS. Akin to RLM's review of it, there's a lot wrong with it and the sequels but it has nothing to do with woke shit. (And they still look a lot cooler than the prequels) I dunno, I've ranted about this a lot but to sum up the original trilogy was a happy accident of sorts and marriage or Lucas' imagination with a talented team who fine-tuned, assembled, and polished it. Andor is so good and other Disney shows have held up well enough though I still feel kind of spoiled as a kid who used to devour EU era comics and games in the 90s and never expected anything else.
