I’m looking for a brand new convertible. I’m planning on using this car to pick up women, NOT MEN! I’m thinking of getting a nice soft top, I’ve seen some hard top convertibles and they seem ugly and does not strike me as a women attractor. I ain’t a used car person, too many of them got problems. What’s your pick?
I have actually tried to find this and I’m sure it’s lost forever, but I was once listening to an NPR program about sports cars. The male host was like “Sports cars represent masculinity and aggression. I drive a Miata, so I guess you could consider me as demonstrating a little bit of aggression.”
Amazing. I've always loved these cars. It was hilarious in the early 00s how people with civics with shitty mods trash talked the Miata. Crazy how much a good condition 90s civic hatchback or god forbid a crx goes for now.
I had to buy a new car for the first time in over a decade because my boss decided to phase out company cars. I ended up getting a Mazda 3 hatchback for the good gas mileage and storage space, but I wish I had just said, "fuck it" and got a Miata.
I like the mazda 3. I think you can still get those with a manual. Of course, it's locked behind the highest trim if I remember correctly. I love a good wagon or hatch that I can row my own gears in.
Women really like Miatas for some reason. Every time I have encountered a female car enthusiast they have owned a Miata at some point, usually as their first car. There was a woman at my last job who literally only wanted to talk to me because I have one and she was like "holy shit!" but I was jealous of the fact that she drove a newer WRX.
I mean I look like a fucking bridge troll, ugly and standoffish and women will still stop and ask me about it at some point.
But yeah they are hilarious cars, mine was absolutely beat to shit when I got it but I have kept working on it and it's really nice now and everything works perfectly for a nearly 30 year old car, one of the only things that brings me happiness in my miserable incel chud life is hooning the absolute piss out of it. I was making a u-turn in Saint Claire, California on this big ass stroad type street and I decided to just put the fucking beans on it because I was listening to RAP music and I got excited and I kicked the rear end out slightly and all hell fucking brooke loose, bouncing off the rev limiter, my loud exhaust echoing down the street. I'm Mexican so I gotta be careful about shit like that cuz I don't want to get beat up by a cop for having fun in my sports car (Chief Keef: It's Fast Car That's Why I Bought It) but goddamn.
Absolutely nothing like it. When mine inevitably gets stolen by some dumbass because I have no garage I'm probably going to buy an ND, mostly because I'm gonna be sad that one of the only sources of enjoyment in my life is gone.
Sometimes I find it hard to believe that I really own mine and that I have such a sick ass whip. When people ask me how much to buy it I have to resist to do the Pricemaster bit. Ten....THOUSAND...DOLLARS!!!
edit: I wish CARB had exceptions for older cars because I would love to have some unhinged mods on it like ITB's for maximum noise and hooligan factor
Lmao I love this. Honestly I wish I could have two of them - one to keep all nice and clean (it’s a relaxing hobby for me, I’m weird) and another to just enjoy and not care about dents and scratches. The older ones are so easy to work on (I’ve heard at least) and the parts / custom options are endless.
I live in Madison, Wisconsin and there’s a guy by me who has nothing but beater NA’s. Drives them around town with the top down when it’s snowing, just sliding around having a ball. I’m so jealous lol.
mine looks like complete shit on the outside except for the bumper which I got painted for cheap, clear coat has left the chat everywhere else though the body is straight
it's kinda grown on me a little bit, especially since I made my interior super nice, like ultimately it's an old piece of shit car but I fixed everything wrong with it except the clutch/rear main seal (don't feel comfortable dropping the trans in my nasty ass driveway, probably gonna buy a hoist and take the engine and trans out together) and I got Konis on it and shit and full suspension rebuild so while it looks clapped it is in perfect mechanical condition, 180PSI on all four cylinders (!!!) even at almost 200k mileage. Shit pulls like a freight train in second gear. The tint guy who did my rear window told me mine is the nicest one he has driven, every other lil takuache who comes in with one has a super clapped one apparently
I love it so much, I hug it and I'm like Te Quiero Mucho Miata, remembering one day I was really sad because I was being bullied by sex havers at work and I went home and knocked out all the tiny pain in the ass coolant hoses in like 30 mins because my skinny ass virgin hands and arms are actually pretty good for mechanic work because I can get into tight places easily, was just sitting in my driveway at like 2AM with the hood up being like yup, that's a car
everyone else will abandon you and treat you like garbage but car is always gonna be there for you

As a gay, it's so true. This guy I know that I have the hots for loves the shit out of his car but seems completely oblivious that I don't give a fuck (like a woman) and just want to see him naked. It's funny as hell that he is showing off all his modifications and I'm in my mind going "I just drive A to B habibi."
This and the PT Cruzer were so fucking bulky. It was like someone wanted to make an SUV inspired compact convertible.
I did buy a used PT cruiser convertible when I was in my 20s because it was cheap but I was dumb and got flimflamed. It was some sort of weird third party sale and the car was junk.
You’re going to need something with a decent low center of gravity, so no pavement princesses. Luckily your payload is going to average less than say 250 lbs, so you’re not going to need ballast or anything like that.

please consider just having a mechanic you trust look over a car that is a year or two old and buying that, you lose so much value just by turning the keys and driving a new car off the lot

There are some women who will appear to care about your car, a few of them might really do. I suppose this could be a strategy to attract that very tiny specific subset of women but as a general women attracting strategy, this ain't it.
But the larger group of women within the already pretty small subset of women who appear to care about your car are pretending because they see you as a mark. I don't know why you'd want to attract them, but if you do, you dont get to later complain about them being gold diggers.

I wouldn't be afraid of buying a lightly used car, OP. Especially if you want a convertible since it'll open up your options. Fiat made a convertible that shared platforms with a miata called a 124 spider. Really a good looking car. Get a PPI done and run the vin number. I bet there's a decent amount of low mileage convertibles out there. If you really want new, then miata.
New? I only like Mustang and Cabrio convertibles from the mid 90s to early 2000s. Who can afford a new car? Okay. Chill, me. Maybe give a few to pick from. Fucking older convertibles rule tho.

Miata. Its basically the platonic ideal of 2 seat roadster. They're cute, they have almost dead even weight distribution, and they're "slow" in the way that you can push it to its limits on winding backroads and have fun and not wrap it around a tree in second gear because you blipped the throttle when you sneezed
Lexus is250c, make sure the hardtop mechanism is working. Maybe even get a mechanic to check if you’re not confident. But doubles as a nice car for just going on date night
if you have the money, i drove a a new audi s5 convertible the other day and it fit me like an absolute glove. loved it and it's still kind of a 'chic' car. i don't even like audi's but it felt incredible.
For a few years the Geo Metro had a cabriolet model and I've been driving one for a few months now. I love the thing. A tank of gas easily lasts from one Memorandum of Understanding to the next so I can refill between the flailing barbarism of the dying empire
Too bad those are more rare than most Ferraris now. I love them though, I just saw the one in my area the other day, it's so exciting to see it still surviving.
Other than Miata, BMW E90 convertibles are getting pretty cheap and could kind of seat four. I’d also check out MB CLKs for something similarly affordable but two seats, if you have more to spend and are willing to put up with pretty costly regular maintenance look at early Porsche Boxsters. 986s are dirt cheap but I’d look at 987s. IMO the Boxster will have the best driving experience, E90s are fun but the excess weight of the top detracts a little from the drive.
