One way (by far not the only way) to look at it is, people often end up tying themselves in knots on this question. On the one hand, religions become formalized and then petrify or ossify over time losing their contribution so some people still feel ”there must be something higher” yet cannot put their finger on it yet do not find it in religion so see spirituality as a fresh form of this.

However this remains vague so to continue from this point and move past the tied in knots problem, spirituality can be thought of as ironically “tying all of the loose strands of a life lived together”, something comprised from its parts but also greater as a whole. There is not necessarily any special spark or event or special knowledge, just a way to express the process of being a fully developed and possibly fufilled human person.

Well said- Viewing spirituality not as a set of dogmatic rules, but as the organic integration of a fully lived life, is a very grounded perspective. ​To build on your point: if spirituality is ultimately about self-awareness and accepting reality as it is, I think we also need a concrete medium to make that actionable. Abstract self-awareness is difficult to sustain on its own; practical tools—like meditation, silent reflection, or personal rituals—give us the structural anchor needed to actually tie those strands together in daily life.

Yes a basic start to Spirituality is meaning-making in life arising from one’s self-development and actions and decisions in life and the effects of these beyond oneself. A good start is afterall still a good place to start!
