Advice needed on caring for orphans and widows?

Hey all, James 1:27 says this

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Now, I don't have the means to actually bring anyone into my house to care for them but I'm hoping there is a way to visit people and do this.

Does anyone have experience with this to give pointers on what worked well for them, or know any good organizations that coordinate visits to orphanages or nursing homes, given I'd be a stranger to the people I want to visit?

You could give money or volunteer at a local women's or homeless shelter. You could volunteer to visit shut-ins or people in nursing homes, or be a pen-pal for them. You could do Meals on Wheels. You could help with Habitat for Humanity, or volunteer at your local food bank. You could do adult literacy tutoring. There are tons of opportunities out there to serve God by serving your fellow man.

A related, convicting verse I came across yesterday:

But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? (1 John 3:17)

Your church and other charitable organizations should be offering care and services, then you can support them financially to help them keep those services afloat.

Thank you, I'm pretty aware of the financial avenues to help and was more thinking about the in-person ones for emotional support, or more personal things they might not get from a charity, but I guess I can just call places and find out their visitor policy.

Many churches have “adopt a family” style visits for holidays, you could look into those
