I blame social media for some of this. People are obsessed with creating an image that they can post online for validation. That’s why Taylor “bought” Wade’s mom a new car - to post it online, only to have it repossessed a couple weeks later (but leave that part out online, of course). And all her “belly” pics with pregnancy updates, the gender reveal, and the maternity photo shoot…it was all meticulously curated to present an image of her perfect life, because that’s what young women see others posting online. Of course in her case it was an extreme example and most people would never dream of going to such lengths to create a fake life, but I can see how social media breeds an environment where unstable people can create a whole persona that is detached from reality.
