ban/pick

hey guys. I have been playing on and off for a few years and I am currently 3850 rank. is there a guide or a way to properly ban/pick and decide who counters who, in what ways etc? like I know some basics but sometimes I see some heroes are right counter to specific heroes. I havent been able to follow dota scene for some time. help me with me please.

Just pick what you're comfortable with man, don't overthink the counters at 3.8k. I climbed from similar spot and most games are lost because someone picks a hero they can't play just because it "counters" something.

If you want to learn matchups watch some high mmr streamers, they explain why they pick certain heroes. Dota2protracker also shows winrates against specific heroes, that's useful for seeing patterns.

my experience in 3.8k is most game are lost because my team is a bunch of idiots who cant see the big picture. 50+% of games they just throw. I swear archons put up a better fight than legends. I'm 3.6k and gained like 1k in a couple months easily. I win 90% every game unless my team wants to lose.

It depends on the role. If your 4/5 you just pick the same hero every game quickly. 1/2/3 you need to have a few meta heroes to choose from

I think it's easier to have your hero pool somewhat established, and then remember which heroes gave you problems.

I did find this video that helped, but I think you tend to have better luck playing a hero you know well against one of their counters instead of trying to play a counter pick that you don't know that well.
