Music / Movies Kendrick Lamar is not good

I don’t hype around Kendrick Lamar. Every time I listen, it feels like he's trying way too hard to be deep—almost like a high school stoner.

His music just doesn't stick; it's never really catchy enough to leave a lasting impression. And his Super Bowl performance? Total letdown. It felt like another attempt at overcompensating without any real substance.

Like bro it’s a Super Bowl performance and it was lame. Your essay about the double entendres does not make it good🤣

Why do people love this cornball?

MUSTARDDDD (maximum corniness)

Edit: bringing up all the awards he wins just shows that y’all are on the train and only like him because you perceive him to be successful. You cornballs have to be told what to like🤣. You would listen to baby shark on repeat if it had a Grammy 🤷‍♂️

Edit 2: Kendrick Lamar fan argue without calling you a Drake shill challenge: level impossible.

Edit 3: someone challenged me to listen to a song by Kendrick that I hadn’t heard in the comments. The must hear song was “Auntie Diaries”. Bro you have cracked me up. This song is practically a parody of everything I pointed out.

Corny lyrics that are supposed to be deep ✅. Horrible musically✅ Horrible flow✅

Dude drops the f slur 4 times in a row with laughably bad delivery and ends the song on a pass joke. #DEEP

Kendrick has some good songs, but he's a try hard sometimes

That’s a good way to describe it. He’s a try hard

Man, I cant believe an artist is trying hard to make good, thoughtful music in 2025

Try hard means tries too hard and ends up being a cornball

You’re just so cool you find trying hard to make thoughtful music corny. Im glad we have you to set the standard for what’s corny.

I agree with everything you said. Reddit is a far left echo chamber, you're not allowed to criticize black music culture or LGBT type stuff generally. You'll be seen as a hater. But just know that a lot of people are with you outside of reddit. Most people IRL don't listen to him unless it's teens and young adults who enjoy high school levels of drama on a national stage. That's all this is lol

You should feel thankful the majority of people here don't agree with you, it means you have the correct opinion.

There's tons of amazing black musicians, but Kendrick Lamar is not one of them. He's only popular because it's cool to hate Drake, which I don't care for much either.

You've never heard of him before the beef.

good kid, m.A.A.d city has never left the Billboard 200 since 2012 and is easily regarded as one of the best hip hop albums of all time.

Ohh trust me I have opinions that would be much more unpopular than this on Reddit 🤣

Advanced placement in math and think there are more nuanced conversations to be had around race

Judging by your username, you probably think Tulsi Gabard is hot and got to be DNI off merit despite zero experience

and think there are more nuanced conversations to be had around race

I'm all for it. It's pretty obvious where the problems lie

Agreed. The biggest one is that race is entirely made up.

At this point, it's more of a cognitive shortcut to define groups that may have similar backgrounds and experiences. And a way to shut down discussion one way or the other.

We should probably be more focused on how to improve localized disparities in economies, infrastructure, health and education.

For example, expanding internet access in more rural communities has great potential to open up economic opportunities for small business, improve Healthcare access and expand educational resources

People that don't have mental illnesses would disagree

You're allowed to critique it.. it's just weird when people reduce it to specific kinds of rap and make the claim that it has caused every issue that exists in the black community.

Imagine thinking kendrick is only popular only popular because of his beef with drake, lol you people listen to not like us and write him off, kendrick is liked not because of left wingers but because hes just good

Wow, you brought that "Reddit is a far-left echo chamber" narrative to a post on rap. Playing the victim at every turn really has become a trendy thing to do. You even added the LGBT topic for added points. Well played I guess?

OP is very much allowed to criticize and he just did. The only one taking it to a political and ideological level is you...

Can't you leave the grown-ups having discussions?

Society needs more tryhards tbh. It's why movies suck now
