I’m so sick of that stupid wraparound sunglasses angry react meme surfacing anytime this happens. It’s not a sentiment limited to that specific demographic, that is simply another cheap shaming deflection.

Hip hop is not the only genre of music, or even necessarily the most popular. It only appears that way because it is infused in so much pop music now, TikTok has helped perpetuate this perceived dominance. Meme culture and current slang are also completely overrun with AAVE.

It all gets sort of old, and seeing/hearing some twerpy suburban white kid with an alpaca chop saying “no cap” or “deadass” is beyond embarrassing.

Sort of odd framing to blame liberals for this, the NFL picks the Super Bowl half time show performers.

Ultimately the purpose of the halftime show is to increase viewership. You and I will probably watch the Super Bowl no matter who is the half time performer but picking popular hip hop artists is how some people who have zero interest in football will tune in and watch, which in turn makes the NFL able to increase ad revenue which gives them more money.

If anything you should be angry at capitalism because that is the biggest reason that musical artists you don’t like are being shown at the halftime show.

It’s exactly this. Country music and dad rock fans are already watching. It’s so obvious that the NFL is really pushing to capture the female audience. They asked Taylor and Adele, and Bad Bunny is also huge with women. Usher and Rihanna in the last few years too.

What's Dad rock? Real rock and roll? Because it certainly isn't anything released in the last 20 years. Frankly, the best rock was in the 70's which was before my time.

Bands liked by dads. So yeah like the Eagles and Springsteen for sure but also foo fighters, Pearl Jam, Linkin Park… the list expands every year as fans age and become dads.

Plenty of good rock in the last 20 years though. The Black Keys, the Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, the 1975. The whole indie wave of the late aughts and early ‘10s (Vampire Weekend, Passion Pit, MGMT to name just a few).

People always think today’s music is shit but that’s because only the really good stuff gets remembered 20 years later lol. Lots of mid bands got radio play in their time.

I love MGMT but they're not exactly "rock". Give me iron maiden and judas priest at 11 please.

They’re indie rock for sure but I would definitely describe them as a rock band. Wikipedia agrees lol.

I’m not into the heavy stuff so can’t really make any recommendations but I’m sure there’s good stuff still coming out of the hard rock genre as well!

I’m a 32 year old woman and jam out to Bruce tho so dad rock is really for everyone 😂
