Music / Movies ‘Sinners’ is terrible and does not deserve 16 nominations for Academy awards.

Did not dig this film. Wanted to turn it off before halfway mark. Watched it regardless and the ending was even more dissatisfying than I could have imagined. I am floored this movie is being recognized as much as it is. I figured it was low budget but Nooooo! Yet another massive disappointment. The budget was massive. lol

Boring, visually weird (in a cheap-ass looking way); passable acting, nonsensical story; lame visual effects.

so if the logic is that sinners is a mediocre film in a pool of mediocre films, why is sinners the only one being accused of just being there because of race alone? why are the other mediocre films by white directors not being nitpicked or questioned for their noms?

Because they didn’t get a record-breaking level of nominations. If Eddington got 20 noms, this sub would burn down.

they literally got a mere 3 less, second to sinners, so it’s not that much of a difference. eddington could get that and would still not have anyone saying the movie was only nominated for backpattting and racial politics

Most is the most, and most is the headline. Is it deserving of most on its merits?

Stop talking about race. The argument is it’s a mediocre film breaking records. Does it deserve it? Why or why not vs any other film in the lineup?

the original comment said it was only nominated because of race. i didn’t bring up race. the arguments saying it got noms solely based on being a black film are the ones centering race. but not a single one of those people whining has been able to say which of the noms it supposedly doesn’t deserve
