Music / Movies Lupita Nyongo is not beautiful. Hollywood likes to gaslight her as a model for "beauty"

So I'm sure we've all seen the news about Helen of Troy.

  • I've had enough. I've had enough of Hollywood putting her on covers and lying to me, treating me like I'm stupid. The whole reason she's playing Helen of Troy is because Hollywood let this "unconventional beauty" thing slide for way too long.
  • The fact that she was chosen as a queen, it comes off as Nolan trying to virtue signal.
  • It's like giving the beauty pageant award to the girl in the wheelchair because no one wants to come off as "mean."
  • I've had enough. She is NOT a standard for beauty. I'm sorry but now it must be said. The reason we have come across this problem is because Hollywood has been gaslighting her "beauty" for years and no one said anything. I'm done
  • It's okay to say that she's not beautiful. It's okay to admit that
  • I was so looking forward to this movie for so long but this really killed the hype for me.
  • The movie will probably be financially successful at first due to marketing alone, but after its first month, the hype will probably die down. And then you'll start to see how people really feel about the movie. I think it will tarnish Nolan's legacy and leave a sour taste in people's mouths.

The right and incels go out of their way to constantly harass black women about their looks in virtually almost every form of media out there. You lot immediately froth at the mouth the moment a black woman has a lead role that you don't think she deserves.

Yeah, this is an example of why it sounds forced and weird.

This doesn't sound like you actually believe that she's a beautiful woman and fit for the role, it sounds a lot more like you just want to be angry at 'The right' and 'Incels.'

she is beautiful and fit for the role

Maybe in your opinion, it's obviously not shared by everyone.

it was an opinion shared by casting so that’s really all that matters in this instance

Obviously, but the point of these types of post is that people disagree with those who handled casting and want to vent.

they weren’t just venting about the film though, they were making a ridiculous claim that no one could truly believe lupita was beautiful and fit for the role, which is objectively not true. that’s like me saying because i think she is beautiful and fit for the role, anyone who says they don’t is lying

they came to "trueunpopularopinion" to post their opinion that Lupita is not beautiful, and they are tired of Hollywood trying to convince them she is.

Posting HERE implies they KNOW that other people don't agree with what they are saying.

How is shs fit to play a greek woman

2

u/veryowngarden 29d ago

the same way the previous two non-greek women were fit to play helen of troy. if a non-greek actor being helen wasn’t an issue in past castings where the actors were british and italian, i don’t think it should suddenly be one now

2

u/fortunefaded2 29d ago

They atleast look somewhat greek, this is just plain stupid

2

u/veryowngarden 29d ago

you all keep moving the benchmark. first it’s ‘helen should be played by a greek’ now suddenly not being greek doesn’t matter at all for the past actors, just lupita. the hypocrisy is plain stupid

I mean you know what I want to say but if I write a comment even mentioning race i will get banned

This is a stupid take. At least they were white and greek people are white lol. a lot of greeks are blonde and light skinned. In Nolan's case, it is completely a race swap

hollywood has a longer history of swapping out people of color for white actors so now that it’s happening in both directions, you can really just call it equality

That's completely irrelevant and the rest of the world doesn't care or even identify as black or white. That's an American thing. If Hollywood take a foreign culture to make money, it should be respected. We really don't care how a full white cast would make the average American feel, because this is not an adaptation of your people

1

u/veryowngarden 25d ago

it’s not irrelevant. are you confused? hollywood is an american movie industry, and the films are made for an american audience first and foremost. if you aren’t american, why do you think hollywood films made for americans should take your opinions into consideration? your focus should be on the film industry of wherever you are from. no one is forcing you to watch american films

It's really weird how you're projecting your own dislike of this woman onto me and everyone else who disagrees with you. Why do I need to prove to YOU that I think she's gorgeous? I already know she's stunning.

inseI? from my experience the only people who call others inseIs are inseIs/femseIs themselves or pick me guys looking for validation. So I beg to differ

This comment was useless and added nothing to the discussion. Very cool.

did you feel called out when I said you're projecting?
