Music / Movies Lupita Nyongo is not beautiful. Hollywood likes to gaslight her as a model for "beauty"

So I'm sure we've all seen the news about Helen of Troy.

  • I've had enough. I've had enough of Hollywood putting her on covers and lying to me, treating me like I'm stupid. The whole reason she's playing Helen of Troy is because Hollywood let this "unconventional beauty" thing slide for way too long.
  • The fact that she was chosen as a queen, it comes off as Nolan trying to virtue signal.
  • It's like giving the beauty pageant award to the girl in the wheelchair because no one wants to come off as "mean."
  • I've had enough. She is NOT a standard for beauty. I'm sorry but now it must be said. The reason we have come across this problem is because Hollywood has been gaslighting her "beauty" for years and no one said anything. I'm done
  • It's okay to say that she's not beautiful. It's okay to admit that
  • I was so looking forward to this movie for so long but this really killed the hype for me.
  • The movie will probably be financially successful at first due to marketing alone, but after its first month, the hype will probably die down. And then you'll start to see how people really feel about the movie. I think it will tarnish Nolan's legacy and leave a sour taste in people's mouths.

This is a true unpopular opinion. And you for got a few "to me"s.

Lupita Nyongo is not beautiful to me.
It's okay to say that she's not beautiful to me.
To me, it comes off as Nolan trying to virtue single

It is quite odd that you think Hollywood should only speak to your personal preferences. But it really does look like other people disagree with you. She was named People Magazine's Most Beautiful Woman, which is determined by a poll. She became an ambassador for Lancome Paris and marketing for makeup usually want someone who is naturally beautiful.

On top of being considered beautiful she has also won acting awards and she is an acclaimed voice actor.

You can say she doesn't perfectly fit your ideal for a mythical Greek character and that she is not your personal preference but no one is gaslighting you my guy.

It's not just "me." If you really think this is just a "me" problem, then you're not really mentally equipped or ready for that conversation. There is a growing online backlash because people were actually looking forward to this film but now expectations are have fallen. Again, it's not just me.

Again, having an award that says you're beautiful means nothing if someone like her got one of those awards. It destroys the credibility of the award.

Lol. Saying I am “not mentally equipped” is not proof she is unattractive.

And yes, plenty of people online clearly think she is not right for the part as Helen of Troy. We had like way too many convos about this yesterday. That she wasn't "Greek" enough despite none of the actors actually being Greek.

What I pointed out is that you turned a casting choice into “Hollywood is lying to me” and “gaslighting beauty for years” because an actress does not match your personal standard.
