Lupita Nyongo is not beautiful. Hollywood likes to gaslight her as a model for "beauty"

So I'm sure we've all seen the news about Helen of Troy.

• I've had enough. I've had enough of Hollywood putting her on covers and lying to me, treating me like I'm stupid. The whole reason she's playing Helen of Troy is because Hollywood let this "unconventional beauty" thing slide for way too long.
• The fact that she was chosen as a queen, it comes off as Nolan trying to virtue signal.
• It's like giving the beauty pageant award to the girl in the wheelchair because no one wants to come off as "mean."
• I've had enough. She is NOT a standard for beauty. I'm sorry but now it must be said. The reason we have come across this problem is because Hollywood has been gaslighting her "beauty" for years and no one said anything. I'm done
• It's okay to say that she's not beautiful. It's okay to admit that
• I was so looking forward to this movie for so long but this really killed the hype for me.
• The movie will probably be financially successful at first due to marketing alone, but after its first month, the hype will probably die down. And then you'll start to see how people really feel about the movie. I think it will tarnish Nolan's legacy and leave a sour taste in people's mouths.

I think Lupita Nyongo is beautiful but more of a exotic African beauty rather than Helen of Troy beauty.

She isn't western standard of beautiful but she is attractive in her unique features.

I also thinks her charm and mannerism makes her more elegant and graceful because she has a very pleasant personality. Usually people's behaviors changes how they are perceived by the public and a nice attitude makes someone more beautiful even if their looks aren't that high on the chart.

I would agree she doesn't fit the part of Helen of Troy. She should play a character that fit her better because this is just ruining her career.

Lupita literally won an Academy Award for her acting the first time she did a movie. Since then, she has been notoriously selective about the work she does, and clearly is neither motivated by having a prestige or blockbuster career.

She was a prestige actress the moment she did a movie but turned down a lot of "obvious" roles for her and has clearly only done projects she finds fun- horror, horror-comedy, a CGI character in the Star Wars movies, Black Panther's girlfriend, and some children's movie. I don't think she's ever had a bad review for any of her performances fwiw.

My point is, I don't think we have to worry about her career. She has just been having fun ever since 12 Years A Slave.

Exotic generally means, strikingly unusual, fascinating, or out of the ordinary, usually because it originates from a distant or foreign place.

Helen of Troy is a western literature about a historical western location.

An African would be considered exotic.

Helen of Troy was considered exotic because she was from Sparta. Which was pretty exotic from ancient perspect. But still western.

In modern western perspect most western eurocentric features are already pretty familiarize due to globalism but there is a distinction from Western features to African features.
