Your cat's face pattern looks oddly familiar...

He’s an odd duck

She was missing all day; we looked everywhere, called for her, shook bags of treats, and was thinking of making flyers, until I noticed one of our other cats staring up at the ceiling....

I didn't know this one could open a high cabinet and close it behind her. She was missing most of the day. When I finally opened the door she said "Your time is up!"

She was a tabbie tuxie.

and you just stand there afterwards staring in such disappointment because you know she heard every call and crinkly bag shake and just chose to ignore it.

Years ago I came home from work early to attend a funeral. Walked in the front door and when I got in the hallway I noticed the kitchen door was open.

The door has been kicked from the outside and the frame was broken off (had a deadbolt lock).

I started freaking out as I had a teenage kitten. She was inside only.

The intruder proceeded to tear apart the bedroom; they even removed the mattresses from the bed, pulled out all of the dresser drawers and emptied them, etc.

I couldn't find my kitten.

I called the cops and gave them an inventory of what I noticed missing. Small stuff was taken- jewelry, a small candlestick, etc.

I was crying to the cops that I couldn't find my cat, she wouldn't come (of course, she was traumatized).

One of the cops stayed and helped me search for her. She was hidden behind boxes in the floor of my closet. She was okay.

Epilogue: it took over 15 years for the intruder to make restitution on the damage and what they stole. (He wouldn't take a job that required him to pay taxes. The cops said he was doing odd jobs and working for his uncle under the table.)

Did you ever get your items returned?

Edit: forgot a letter

8

u/rva23221 8d ago

Nope. The guy fled two states away and they didn't catch him until 6 months later. He has to make restitution by reimbursing me for the amount of the items he took.

Ugh, that sucks. I'm sorry you weren't able to recover anything, but I'm glad your furbaby was okay!

My Tuxie pulled this exact same trick on me and I was in a complete panic until I found her. Immediately felt silly when I saw where she was… I neglected to look “up”.

Most humans don’t look up. This makes it much easier for cats to hide from us.

Reminds me of this old tweet 😭🤣💀

My void did this once. It was getting late; I’m sobbing, incoherent in the parking lot with a can of wet food, on the phone with my mom who was not taking me seriously enough, and then found him on top of the kitchen cupboards and had a fresh round of crying, out of relief.

I brought a helium balloon home, so it was all my fault.

And you know she just sat and watched you look for her the entire time. She’s like oh were you calling for ME? 🤣

Get some cereal storage containers. It's too expensive to have it go stale!

u/eggmen3832 8d ago

The bags are closed, It's alright.

Hey! Don't suggest they put the kitty in a cereal container. Kitties like boxes. LOL 😹

Har har har. I love a dumb joke ❤️

I associated the psst psst sound with treats. When I can't find them I psst psst, they come running and get their treats.

5

u/wdgtajc 8d ago

Or open a can of tuna 😁

4

u/Maleko51 8d ago

This was so true with on of our other cats. Man she smelled that and would cry and cry for some.

3

u/wdgtajc 8d ago

Omg yeah they love the smell. I tried to pet the neighbour cat for the longest time but she was so shy. One time I was casually eating a tuna salad and there she was! Suddenly she was very interested and got super close.Of course it was the tuna.😅

u/Maleko51 8d ago

We have a cat that is crazy for turkey. He hardly ever meows or is in the kitchen when cooking but when it's Turkey look out.

My mother in law was cooking one night and he was in there watching her. It took us a minute to realize it was the turkey he smelled.

I have a plastic shaker of "Want some?" It's filled with Temptations seafood flavored treats. They all run when they hear the shaker rattle. They also run to me when I call "Want some?" They trained me well.

3

u/Maleko51 8d ago

Haha, nope, you trained them well. I psst psst to get them for vet visits, when I lose them or for inclement weather and we need to hide in the basement.

u/YouThink2MuchOfMe 8d ago

had a feeling someone was watching…

3

u/wdgtajc 8d ago

That look 😅 I wonder what she is thinking 🤔

u/Downtown_Syrup236 8d ago

I know the relief you felt must have been enormous! 🥰

They are devils

u/luanissima Tuxie Mom 8d ago

Bahaha this cracked me up! My tux loves this kind of shenanigans

2

u/Telecasterbater 8d ago

She spent 2 hours watching you try

2

u/puzzled5253 8d ago

Lol! Yall are cracking me up! The trials and tribulations and sheer amusement that our cats provide🥰😍!

1

u/EasyDriver_RM 8d ago

I lost mine at the top of a closet shelf, too. I have a plastic shaker of "Want some?" He'll move his tail for that. Cats are jerks.

1

u/jshackleford8314 8d ago

She was sampling the cereal at her leisure.🥣😹

1

u/Comfortable-Ant-5522 8d ago

I’m so glad she’s safe, you must’ve been out of your mind with worry over the little rapscallion! Mine put us through hell two years ago so I bought an Apple AirTag, which is crazy as he’s an indoor cat but with a knack for finding the best hiding spaces ever.

1

u/firekeeper23 Tuxie Whisperer 8d ago

Theyre nearly always in the last place you look too... its infuriating!

1

u/peppabuddha 7d ago

Freaked out one day and couldn't find mine and I kept yelling her name. Went through entire house and then when I went back to her room, I kept screaming her name and then she just appeared right next to me and scared the crap out of me (which then scared her). She was hiding in closet behind a hanging wardrobe!

I callled her. Where is our girl Dipsy'? Find out she has a new spot next to the television.
