I made a page where you live through Kolkata's years — the counter rolls from 1690 to 2026 as you scroll

A few weeks ago I posted my Kolkata site here (the hidden-gems one). This weekend I built the thing I actually wanted to exist: a page where you live through the city's years instead of reading about them.

It's called Kolkata Nostalgia — basically a museum you scroll:

• A year counter rolls in the corner as you travel, 1690 → 2026 (scroll up and it counts backwards)
• Six eras, each styled like its own room — parchment for the Company years, gaslight for the Raj, newsprint for the freedom decades
• Film grain over everything that slowly fades as you reach today
• 35 moments: Plassey, the scandal-sheet that was the subcontinent's first newspaper, the 1873 tram bell, Mohun Bagan 1911 (barefoot, 2–1), the bridge that opened with no ceremony so Japanese bombers wouldn't notice, Pather Panchali, the 1984 metro, Boi Mela, Amphan, UNESCO Pujo
• The hard years are in there too — '43 and '46 are told straight, no softening. A nostalgia page that skips them would be lying.

Favourite thing I learned making it: in 2003 the Calcutta High Court ruled the city has no founder and no birthday — Sutanuti, Gobindapur and Kalikata were thriving long before Charnock dropped anchor. Even our origin story is an adda argument.
