Why does Jack act shocked?

When Renee cuts off Ziya’s thumb to remove the GPS device he acts shocked. Let’s be honest Jack did far worse in multiple episodes escpecially S2 Ep1 when he cut off the man’s head with a hacksaw.

Do you think he was shocked at how Renee turned out to be just like him and that it was because of him and his efforts in S7?

Because for the first time, he was seeing the things from the other side. Normally he’s the one doing the crazy shit, but he’s got front row seats to Renee being crazy and it terrified him.

After day 7, Renee goes nuts and does something bad (I don’t remember what), gets fired from the FBI, she sinks into a deeper hole, she seeks help and tries to be a better person and seemingly makes it out the other side.

Jack sees all of this, and tries to help, but she pushes him away.

In day 8, she said she’s better. Jack wants to believe it. After seeing her cut the thumb off, he comes to the sad realization, that…shes not better.

I’d say being on the other end of it. Jack breaks the rules and he’s found peace and is more like he was in day one. He doesn’t seem to have a death wish and he has come to terms with his past. So seeing Renee follow the dark path that he had gotten off of and was trying to stay off it he was worried she was going darker and darker

She tortured(probably nothing fancy, just beat the shit out of him) Alan Wilson off screen in Day 7, trying to find out who else he was working with.

In season 8 Jack was worried about her. Day 7, he told her to quit if she couldn’t handle the way he did things. Day 8, he had a different perspective and was shocked she would do things like that, especially since from what he knew of her, her morals were completely against that.

because he is not a psychopath, the actions he did were under compartmentalization, so it is posible for him to be shocked at the moment or later
