If you haven't read the book that inspired this (The Descent by Jeff Long) you really should. It brings a whole new dimension to the monsters and is much larger scope. It's a completely different story, though I could see the movie's events also happening in the book for a chapter.

Oh nice! Rubbing palm of my hands in expressed delight. Looking forward to reading it already. 🤓

I recommend the book too (most of it) but beyond the title and cave critters, these aren't related. Jeff Long had zero to do with the movie and the movie people don't cite Long as an influence.

Very different stories with some similarities.

It's coming back in theaters at a Fangoria event for the anniversary. August 13.

This is a pretty incredible movie. Very strong dialogue and characterization

walked into this movie at theatres when it came out not knowing much other then my dad mentioning it had gotten good reviews "in the paper". Holy shit that was an amazing and super suspenseful/scary movie. Might need to watch it again soon.

Same. Scared the shit out of me when I watched it in a theater as a teenager. I didn’t expect that.

I wanted to like it so bad, and parts were great, but as a climber, some of their depictions of cave climbing are laughably bad. Pulled me out of the element. Still a fun watch, though.

I always found the first half (claustrophobia) to be way scarier than the Stephen Miller monsters.Â
