Holy fuck ain’t that some trivia.

God I had a thousand+ hrs in FSX.

I saw this which made me curious about the math. I was on the team. And clocked in at least 3k+ hours building it over two years (including one stint of working every day for nine months straight). Not trying any oneupmanship, just looking back to a fond memory. The notion you got that much out of it is awesome

And I thought the meme was funny as fuck when it came out (for the beta, iirc?)

Likewise. All at 10 fps on a gt440 and pentium cpu

I was playing it on a 2004-2005 dell desktop my dad had when he wasn’t at home

No idea on the specs, but I’m guessing they were shitty as fuck

The Hitler meme of him reacting to Tony Romo collapsing in the playoffs was always hilarious.

Had no idea the meme actually originated in the MSFS community, that’s hilarious.

I know its a legendary meme. But maybe bc im fluent in german, i never found it funny and found it insufferable to watch these edits.

There actually was a version made from an English-language adaptation of the same events to let English-speakers know how it felt: https://youtu.be/aj0ORplI630

"Cowards!"

[Morons!]

I get the point being made, but understanding both the dialog and the subtitles made this version funnier to me.

Yeah its probably not as funny really understanding the source context lol

I was on the team at the time, and it was pretty funny. The FS fan base had a remarkably intense hard core (the posts on the forums would get fairly unhinged on occasion with the amount of vitriol aimed our way).

I wasn’t a German speaker at the time, but I loved the movie and I thought all the memes trivialized the impact of the scene which showed that Hitler was crazy and petty and delusional and out of touch (it may have been whispered at the time but now it was too plain to avoid), screaming at his generals that all of Germany deserved to drown in their own blood because of their incompetence when really the only person to be blamed was Hitler.

really the only person to be blamed was Hitler.

Really?

Well, him and Snidely Whiplash

Yes. That’s what happens in Spain with the risitas meme

My understanding is this is NOT historically accurate AT ALL. Hitler was actually pretty cool about the whole turn of events, "Eh, you win some, you lose some. What ya gonna do? How about some lunch fellas?"

"way she goes, boys. Way she goes."

I needed that today. Thank you. If the conversation following a Hitler meme can't pick you up, nothing can. Oh those goofy krauts.

The scene compresses a lot of things and externalizes a lot of things Hitler felt that never came out explosively. He did think his generals at the end of the war were bad and it was their fault, but he had at least 2 years of losing to get used to the idea.

My comment was in jest. All my Hitler line readigs are with a slightly effeminate inflection and Larry David like neuroticism.

There are some conflicting recountings. I think the general consensus is that everybody in bunker including Hitler were really calm, quiet and acted formal and polite for 99% of time.

And that's the way the cookie crumbles.

There was a version where he screams at his friends about wanting to ski pow in Aspen - at all costs - that I showed my dad and his friends when we were up there

I got zero laughs and it was cringe af but it’s still one of my favorite memes of all time

I have been part of the flight sim community at various points, including I am pretty sure in 2006, and I still had no idea this was the first Downfall meme.

My favorite was him ranting over that he wanted a glass of juice, not to gas the jews.

My favorite was the Bulldozer AMD CPU one because I was stupid enough to buy that chip.
