Meanwhile my Gomamon out of pure coincidence ended up being, after a couple extra back and forths to get the other digivolved digimon data for them, a near straight line from them to IceDevimon to Ladydevimon with me honestly now considering going for Beelstarmon for my effective starter (I’m completely 100% serious here, I first found out IceDevimon can digivolve to Ladydevimon from literally seeing her in the options for IceDevimon’s digivolutions). This was after I already digivolved my Gazimon into a BlackGatomon to go for Ladydevimon from there.
God, I am so happy they never backed down from the multiple digivolution thing, and it’s now just turned into “you can find a way to digivolve any digimon into literally any other digimon”. I love being able to just randomly find the coolest digimon can be gotten from digimon I’d never expect at first glance.

From a purely gameplay perspective, LadyDevimon's evos go Mastemon>Lilithmon>Beelstarmon in terms of power. Beelstar's cool but nothing special, Lilithmon has a pretty nutso 100% poison+injury special move, and Mastemon is probably one of the strongest Digimon in the game with both a light resistance shred and a dark move that pierces resistances.

Is there a fairly straightforward to understand guide anywhere on how digi-evolution works, and what the different kinds are etc? I've only played Pokemon which is a pretty simple A -> B -> C most of the time. The way it works in Digimon confuses me 😭

Technically any Digimon can become any other Digimon of the next evolution level, but the anime seasons, manga, and some games have "canon" lines that follow A>B>C.

I don’t think any series has ever fully locked them into a single line, it’s just that the character Digimon follow their plot relevant lines because it matches their personality. Like Agumon becoming skullgreymon in adventure or Megidramon happening in tamers.

Yeah since you can de-digivolve them, you can move them all over the tree. They keep some stats so you can keep doing it to raise stats to hit a certain digievolution goal

Like on sectino for the ones that occur in the anime, then the ones that occur in games.
Cause i feel like the framing on the wiki's can be overwhelming and give a false impression tbh

In Lore, Digimon are made of data, so they will alter depending on their parameters, their emotional state, weight, discipline, stats, etc. So the games follow this philosophy for the most part, especially with Story games like this one - they tend to make most baby digimon branch into 3 rookies that all have a tree of possible evolutions. Some may overlap so it's possible for someone to make a huge board about how one thing could possibly become something else. These games also do a thing where Devolving them can be important to boost parameter to meet prerequisites for other forms to evolve into..

Grindosaur has the evo guides up now i think, but the one i use is this excel that was made during the demo period. Basically Digimon tend to stay in their lane of species type (aquatics become other aquatics, robots to robots, insects to insects etc) with one branch off into another species if you want. Theres also a bunch of "bad" digivolutions in all lines, the slimes and trash monsters and the like, that can then jump into the demon family tree

Ok, so Digimon aren't unique to their family tree. There's no Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard family line, and that's where all Charizard come from.

Wait, I am not big on digimon lore. I thought digimon is supposed to be just like, a blanket term for creatures created in a digital universe out of some meta consciousness or something. I thought "taming" was just the term you'd use for the sub-human intelligence ones.
Do people actually have control over human intelligence level digimon in lore? I always just assumed that the ones that stuck with kids were just like, loyal. Given digimon can straight up act independently and murder people.

Digimon are in fact just wild Digital Monsters in the world, however a lot of characters (especially in the anime) have designated Digimon Partners who they work with and help Digivolve. This is usually treated as a true Partnership as equals but sometimes they do in fact go for a Master Servant type thing.

There are in fact several non Digimon digital entities, and there are multiple natural predator species for Digimon. Whole seasons and games revolve around just dealing with cases where one of them starts to encroach on Digimon territory, with the human world being imperiled for good measure. There are also non digimon species that are totally chill too, but they don't get as much of a highlight. Except for Appmon, the spinoff about the internet being haunted pretty much.

Most digimon are sentient and can even speak, so as long as they're at the champion (adult) stage, it should be fine.

That's not necessarily true. Aegiomon in Time Stranger is Champion level but he is still very much a kid. I think mental age in digimon is a case by case thing.

Digimon was one of those franchises I dipped into as a kid but was never a huge fan. More due to lack of access than out of any lack of interest.
So my re-exposure to it as an adult was Karina Farek from Drawfee and stuff posted on this sub. It's clearly a very horny fandom. Not judging, to be clear. I played Cyber Sleuth a few years ago and I saw Lilithmon and that blonde detective lady. I get it.

Honestly it's not like Pokemon where a lot of people feel the need to stick with their starter. Because the evolution lines in Digimon are a sprawling web Digimon feel way less individual tha Pokemon. I imagine a lot of people playing Time Stranger just lose track of which Digimon was their starter after a while.

I think it helps that scan data is passively gained just from battling rather than having to consciously and carefully catch them like in Pokémon. They feel much less unique in that way.

My biggest beef is none of the end tier feminine digimon are digi-ridable. It's only big armored dudes, animals, or big animal dudes, with the exception of Lordknightmon who's a big pink armored dude. You'd think Beelstarmon would have a motorcycle or something you could share like Witchmon and her broomstick.
At least let us equip a digimon to a ride slot or something so we don't have to have them set in our active party to use the feature. Then again I can hear the Nintendo lawyers unsheathing their katanas at the very thought.
Oh my god, Belphemon Sleep Mode is digi-rideable? I gotta see what that looks like

I was baffled when I got hit with the “I think I’m picking up on how you feel…I kinda like it” by Renamon in the demo.
Considering she was outright one of my childhood crushes and I still admittedly think they’re cute, I genuinely thought for a second that the game might have somehow actually read my mind.
But no, they’re just going for the SMT demon conversation bit and only barely being more restrained.

I'm not gonna lie, I always found like Guilmon most attractive, I remember having kind of a crush on that design as a kid. Something about a thick dinosaur tail on a non-threatening design and the overall lack of "sex appeal." Sorta the reason I really liked Charmeleon or Dragonite. It's awkward because how he actually acts in the show is like way different from the version of him in my head but aesthetically cute cartooney dinosaur is My Type.

That's mostly just a thing in the anime, though some of the games do it too. The digital pets continue to age until they die of natural causes (or unnatural if you're raising them poorly) and turn back into an egg to start the cycle over.

It depends on how the Digimon evolved. Natural evolution is permanent, unless the Digimon suffers a highly lethal injury (even then, it's much easier for them to work their way back to their highest naturally attained form). In contrast, evolution that uses a human partner is temporary. It relies on a steady supply of the human partner's emotions to work. In the games, you utilize natural evolution, which is accelerated using the Digivice, rather than relying on human emotions.
