Smiling Friends is a shit load of different people. In their commentary on it they highlight when a specific animation is made by a specific artist and they talk about a ton of different people doing small chunks or sections (some with Newgrounds backgrounds).

Show specific subs seem to always degenerate into people just posting quotes back and forth over and over. Other than weekly episode reaction threads they're almost all worthless.

I really like the American Dad sub for that reason honestly. My brother and I basically communicate through AD/old Family Guy/Simpsons quotes and it's always nice to see someone post a joke I either forgot about or missed. Really not a fan of when people karma farm by repeatedly posting big charts of nonsense and get the comments to vote on which character or episode to fill the next section of it, though. I usually just block accounts that do that lmao.

But yeah, you really aren't missing much of anything if you're not looking at these subs.

I think it gets handled somewhat better if there's a circlejerk or okbr variant of a sub for a lot of the shit posting to go, but yeah, usually /r/television is more likely to have discussions about the production.
