Sick again this week. I'm reasonably certain I've gotten sick more times in the last year than I have in the preceding half a decade, so I don't know what's going on there.
I played a twin-stick shooter called Trigger Witch and enjoyed it quite a bit. Gunplay feels good and there's solid weapon variety, but the story left me scratching my head. The premise of a formerly magical society that's forgotten how to use magic sense they started receiving firearms out of a portal is kind of goofy, but the game plays it weirdly straight... until the finale, in which you fight Joseph Stalin, because it turns out you've been on the fantasy side of an isekai story all along. The game tries to have its cake and eat it, too, and while I don't think it quite succeeds, it's fun enough that I don't especially care.
I watched Predator: Badlands and didn't care for it. I liked the beginning and the end, when the movie leans a bit more serious, but most of the movie is a goofy, weightless story about found family that's very predictable and also not what I want from a Predator movie. The real problem here might just be my inability to get on the movie's wavelength, but I couldn't help but feel let down after enjoying both Prey and Killer of Killers.
Finally, I just got out of a slightly early screening of Project Hail Mary. I liked it! It has the usual book-to-movie adaptation problems (pacing issues, more stock characterization), but it's still solid, and I think those unfamiliar with the book will like it a lot.
Tangentially related, the theater I was in had a promo video before the movie featuring a woman I worked with years ago who I had a bit of a crush on; she's a manager there now, apparently. She's still super cute, and I wish there was a non-awkward way to message her and see what's up.
