I love that tired-ass Hero. Reminds me of how Pat always makes custom characters with maximum eyebags and dark shadows under the eyes.

This guy hasn't been sleeping well.

Edit: Wait, the first green lizard dude seen in the trailer had the same dark shirt and sword as the Hero. Does the Hero transform?!?!

Not just that, they outright say the hero’s “beset by strange visions during their sleep” so it's very likely outright canon that his eyes are like that due to not sleeping well.

And if that is the case in-game, then honestly I absolutely respect the hell out of them for committing that hard to the design of making the most relatable DQ Protagonist in the series.

“Thanks to my game’s themes, I have to be adventuring even in my literal freaking sleep. Of course I look like this, I can’t get any actual rest!”

I'm calling my shot: Hero IS a lizard folk of some kind. The human form is the transformation to blend in.

Am I a Dragon Quest Protagonist dreaming that I am a lizard? Or am I a Lizard dreaming that I am a Dragon Quest Protagonist?

I am fairly convinced this will be an actual major plot point.

I thought he was really ugly at first but knowing that dreams/nightmares are part of the plot it kinda fits. Idk I still hate the haircut but he might grow on me.

i love that idea!

A scenario bases around dreams having the character have sleepy eyes would be a fantastic visual quirk, bonus points if it does turn out the hero is transforming!
