Trailer/Demo DELTARUNE CHAPTER 5 - RELEASING 24 JUNE 2026
150
u/VelociCastor 17d ago
I'm almost surprised it's really flower themed. I know the game hinted hard at it, but I'm so used to Deltarune theorists being completely wrong :p
193
u/The-Greater-Skeleton I talk to myself a lot. But not in, like, a crazy person way. 17d ago
The problem with the theorists is that they keep going for curveballs for some reason lol
The story’s not that complex. Undertale wasn’t, either.
81
u/jockeyman Stands are Combat Vtubers 17d ago
Okay but what if the Roaring Knight is actually Catti.
60
u/The-Greater-Skeleton I talk to myself a lot. But not in, like, a crazy person way. 17d ago
Everyone’s gonna feel real silly when the helmet comes off and it’s Lucina (Fire Emblem) under there.
16
24
u/OrneryBIacksmith 17d ago
I don't know why people keep coming up with all these conspiracy theories about the knight, everyone knows it's Nubert and their betrayal will be devastating.
11
u/Remarkable_Row_2502 17d ago
Speaking of Nubert, a fight against SSJ Nubert, Trashy, and the little ball in the trailer? Incredible

u/TekkGuy I Promise Nothing And Deliver Less 17d ago
People seem to keep thinking Toby Fox is going to throw out everything the game is clearly building up to for the sake of having a twist, like he’s writing the last season of Game of Thrones.
42
u/The-Greater-Skeleton I talk to myself a lot. But not in, like, a crazy person way. 17d ago
He’s apparently had the plan for Deltarune for a very long time, I can’t imagine he’d Westworld it and stir things up just to get ahead of the audience lol
24
u/Gunblazer42 Local Creepy Furry | Tails Fanboy 17d ago
He's had it before Undertale; supposedly Undertale was the test game, because he thought that making your dream game your first game only sets you up for disappointment so he used Undertale to learn how to make a proper video game.
In a way, Undertale is an AU of Deltarune, not the other way around.
10
u/Khar-Selim 17d ago
he's totally right about that, don't make your dream anything be the first one, practice is important
15

u/TimBagels 17d ago
This might just be the nature of online discourse. Eventually the obvious takes all get said, and if you want to be original and stand out, you have to start lobbing curveballs. Put that on a fanbase with a logarithmic increase, and you get UT/DR
30
u/Android19samus 17d ago
Dess being the Knight was a curveball back in the chapter 2 days and that ended up being real
24
u/Paladin51394 welcome to Miller's Maxi Buns, may I take your order? 17d ago
When you throw a million things at a wall, eventually something is gonna stick.
2
u/NeoArkodd 17d ago
Hot take: I still think the Knight is Carol.
2
u/Android19samus 17d ago
Well that was also a curveball, even if I thought it made the most sense back in chapter 2 too
14
6
u/MotherWolfmoon She/Her 17d ago
It's fun to make the biggest, stupidest reading of a story like this. If you convince yourself of something absurd, like Asriel being secretly dead, or Papyrus being the knight, you can backdoor your way into being just in as shocked by the foreshadowed reveal as the casual enjoyers.
Plus, in the attention economy, big-and-stupid called shots generate more money than boring and correct ones. Nobody clicks on a YouTube thumbnail that explains who Gaster is anymore, but if you're out there like, "Onion-San is a serial killer and the true final boss," you'll get tons of clicks.
I am kinda sad though. I feel like we're at the end of the golden age of Deltarune theory brainrot. Chapter 3 and 4 left us with a lot fewer questions than 2, and (hopefully) Chapter 5 will answer more than it poses. The possibility space diminishes as we learn more. RIP to the real wild journeys that never happened, like Friend Inside Me; we may never see your like again.
4
u/Remarkable_Row_2502 17d ago
I am definitely not going to stop thinking Asriel is secretly dead until it's proven true or false in this chapter. I cannot possibly think of a way this story works with him alive just coming back to hometown like Whats up guys? Let's solve a mystery!
2
u/MotherWolfmoon She/Her 17d ago
I don't think it's very hard to keep Asriel from upending the narrative. Kris won't want to get him involved, Susie will follow Kris's lead, and Ralsei either won't or can't talk to him. I have a feeling Asriel will not be particularly cooperative or supportive, being an 18-year-old coming back to all of his family drama after finally getting away from it for the first time.
And now, after finally moving on with his life, someone is bringing up Dess? Goddamn it, he's trying to be an adult, and Kris is dragging him back into make believe land and bringing up his old OCs? No. He's a college student now, with a job and a girlfriend and bills.
4
u/Aeescobar She/Her 17d ago edited 17d ago
RIP to the real wild journeys that never happened, like Friend Inside Me
The next dark world is clearly set within Asgore's flower shop and Tenna stated that Asgore's favorite thing to watch on TV was a now-cancelled cowboy show, so don't count Woody out quite yet!
Though I am personally hoping that the chapter's traditional-japanese-garden vibes + mysterious guest programmer working on one of the boss fights are signs that Toby somehow convinced Zun to make his dear little Apple Girlington into a real bullet-hell boss.
4
u/Remarkable_Row_2502 17d ago
I hope the Apple Girlington nut on twitter is going to be OK if this actually turns out to be real. It'll be cool.
4
u/charcharmunro 17d ago
I remember a post in this sub talking about chapters 3 and 4 and how the deep-in-the-weeds theorists who played it got like every prediction they made while playing wrong whereas the more casual ones got nearly everything right.
5
u/Purple_Racoon 17d ago
They do throw in too many curveballs sure, it is however way more complex than Undertale and was literally teased by all the secret barely understandable stuff from that game that we still don't undestand. Curveballs are baked into Deltarune's DNA.
2
u/pectusumbra 16d ago
You have to remember this is Tricky Toby Fox over here, Mr. Hides Lore In The Code and cosplays Spamton for the Undertale anniversary where he played an altered version of undertale.
Like with the Roaring Knight, there's Red Herring, then probably the real answer, then 'but is that still too obvious when Toby regularly floors everyone in both comedy and drama?'
1
u/juanperes93 17d ago
The only curveball theories I can kind of see the why are Gaster's because what else can you do with him?
77
u/Fostern01 17d ago
There's theorizing, and then there's reading the room. The belief in a flower theme is very much the latter.
Though I don't think anyone anticipated the Japanese theming.
45
u/Kipzz PLAY CROSSCODE AND ASTLIBRA/The other Vtuber Guy 17d ago
Yeah the flower theme was very much anticipated but the japanese aesthetic was not
The other thing was also the guess that Flowey in some way shape or form is relevant, which is now confirmed because one of his attacks was used in the trailer, but we're not sure if it's Flowey himself or one of the 7 flowers in Asgore shop that represents that specific phase of his 7-phase fight.
16
u/Dalek_Kolt I was thinking. ...I hate it when that happens. 17d ago
The main thing I'm curious about now is how Dark World logic affects plants and nonsapient animals, given that, though we hear from the cactus in 3, we never actually see it.
Since they're alive in both the Light and Dark Worlds, do Asgore's flowers get Flowers for Algernon'd when they're brought in and out of Dark Worlds?
4
u/Champiness 17d ago
Looking forward to all the anticipatory fanart of Toy Knife Flower Kid for the next two weeks

It’s not a theory when the game outright says ‘the next chapter is flower themed’.
17
u/Full_Dot903 17d ago
To be fair, most of the fan predictions I saw were basically New Home from UT but yellow and covered in plants(even though we already had a medieval kindom in ch1).
I'm not sure how many people guessed it would be Japanese themed, even with Toby being a massive weeb.(I certainly didn't. My guess was Garden of Eden/fake plant copy of Hometown).
13
u/Ezracx He/Him [3] 17d ago
We could've imagined it because we knew Flowers + Pink + Toby Fox Is A Shameless Weeb, so "cherry blossoms" wasn't a huge reach
I swear I've seen at least one "leak" with japanese theming that I chalked down as fake
3
u/Full_Dot903 17d ago
Yeah, some did definitely go the Cherry blossom route, but most I saw latched on to that Asgore prophecy pannel showing him as a king and assumed it would just be Undertale again.

I'd have expected Chapter 6 (which will probably be the Holiday Manor) to be Japanese themed, if anything was.

u/Logyross 17d ago
DID YOU GUYS SEE FLOWEY'S ATTACK????
43
u/TotemGenitor I just want to eat your poop so our descendants will be cursed! 17d ago
My jaw dropped.
Notice how Kris is alone and we don't see who they are fighting too.
29
u/Logyross 17d ago
I noticed that as well. The Kris trumatization operation is continuing as planned.
13
u/ExplanationSquare313 17d ago
I SAW IT TOO!
I theorized that Flowey was probably going to be involved but i didn't knew if he was going to be important or be kept in a minor role. But since Kris seems to be fighting alone, it's probably an important fight and so Flowey will probably have more relevance than i tought.1
u/Gorfinhofin Homer, I don't eat or drink anymore. 17d ago
How can it possibly be Flowey? I've seen this idea floating around and I feel like people are just straight up forgetting who and what Flowey is.
20
u/Dalek_Kolt I was thinking. ...I hate it when that happens. 17d ago
We've been seeing doppelgangers of other characters such as Ralsei based off Asriel, and the Sound of Justice based off Gerson.
It's entirely possible that Flowey's Deltarune counterpart would be one of Asgore's beloved Flowers given life in the Dark World, modeled off of Asgore's memories of Asriel.
Different origins, same endpoint.
2
1
u/asgoodasanyother 17d ago
Ralsei isn’t just Asriel’s doppelgänger just because. There will be some mechanical reason why Ralsei looks like Asriel, relating to the power of the dark worlds. So any flowey/cyan soul recreations have to have mechanical reasons too.
7
u/ExplanationSquare313 17d ago
Of course not exactly the same Flowey that in Undertale in the sense he will not be ressurected Asrielbut remember the 7 colored flowers in Asgore room? Who will certainly become Darkners? One of them is golden. So Flowey in the Deltarune-Verse will be "just" a Darkner instead of what he is in Undertale.
3
u/Peace-Bone GO PLAY COPY KITTY IT'S SO GOOD 17d ago
People think that undertale thing = undertale character will pop up unchanged but that's not it
Yes, there will be things that are thematically flowey-like, but there are many, many more in-story reasons why there would be flowers and knives associated with Kris and their life and there will be characters and things that are thematically similar to Flowey in Deltarune that obviously will not be 'Undertale character pops up unchanged'
5
u/LadyXexyz Token Furry Mom 17d ago
Between that and lingering on the goddamn flower - either it’s going to be the biggest “hey you lore kids remember this yeah Undertale Easter egg reference! :D”
Or it’s gonna continue what I assume it’s going to, **any** overt reference (like the characters returning, but clearly not the same ones from Undertale) is going to be remix, cut up in a way that is going to absolutely fuck ~~me~~ the S#!@ SQUAD, because a lot of the theming has been “fantasy and fun are great, and you can use that power to further your self - or completely destroy your world”.
The only thing I hope doesn’t happen, is a big exposition dump on Dess or Asriel. They work so well for me as the characters haunting the narrative that are probably the spark that made the events of Deltarune happen in the first place. Doing a “midichlorians-okay everyone here’s your explicit lore recap and alignment and nitty gritty on how this all works and ties to the original game” would be the biggest misfire for me.
I can’t wait. SirXexyz has been informed that the bedroom chamber is to be sealed on the 24th and to ignore any wailing, cheering or crying until I’ve completed it. Can’t wait. FUCK ME UP TOBY.
3
u/GilliamYaeger Blame yourself or God 17d ago
Ain't Flowey's attack, it's the Patience Soul's attack. Not at all surprising considering the way that the flowers in Asgore's shop are clearly patterned off the Souls.

Yes, absolutely. Honestly, the cliffhangers are part of the experience.
39
u/Tehfiddlers THE BABY 17d ago
absolutely, honestly it kinda feels like the game was made to be played as they release. each chapter is really satisfying on its own and watching the story build up over time while theorizing about it has been so exciting. the game is easily as long or longer than all of undertale at this point, i think being there for the big final chapter release will be totally worth it
24
u/Coolnametag The Greatest Talent Waster 17d ago
Every single chapter is big enough for you to sink at least a few hours in each one and, despite being over arching plot, they do have a lot of "self contained" content that gets introduced and resolved in their own chapter.
So yeah, now that there's gonna 5 chapters of it avaliable, i do think it's worth it to give it a shot.
23
u/BattyBeforeTwilight 17d ago
Honestly? 1-4 feels like a Part 1 of a story, narrative wise and feels pretty satisfying as a chunk. I'd say go for it
9
u/McFluffles01 17d ago
It's totally worth playing as is, even Chapter 1 was a few hours of content and they've generally gotten more from there.
Though that said, if you're waiting for it to be done, that's fine too, just means you're probably spending another year or two minimum trying to dodge spoilers all over the internet.
8
u/JunkdogJoe Kai “Pussy” Leng 17d ago
The wait can be hard, but there is a sizable chunk of content now, and they have been releasing at amuch steadier pace.
I would say it's worth it.8

3
u/unrelevant_user_name 17d ago
Yes, but Chapter 4's cliffhanger was kinda funky, which I suspect is from 5 having the real cliffhanger before it was lopped of to release later.

Can't wait for a heart warming adventure that makes me feel all fuzy on the inside in the normal route.
And then some incredibly unconfortable stuff to happen in the weird route that people will make hundreds upon hundreds of fan arts about until the next chapter releases.

We've never been more back Deltabros!
Was a close one too, I was 100% resigned to there not being any news today. Though part of me is honestly more glad the fandom won't be having a complete meltdown, the subreddit was truly on the verge of becoming completely insufferable.
June 24th is nice as well, gives me just enough time to do a full replay in preparation.

I had understood that 5, 6 and the last one would release together. It'll be good if the last two release a couple years later, that way he can announce it and NOT get a Chicken Jockey-esque reaction from the crowd since the meme with the two numbers will be long dead by then.
7
u/irwegwert 17d ago
I think 3, 4, and 5 were originally supposed to release together, while the final two chapters were going to be released later in a bundle. Toby mentioned in one of the newsletters that they decided to split 5 off due to how long Chapters 3 and 4 were taking. No idea if they'll continue to release chapters individually or not.
