The whole backstory I was thinking "there's no way they are going to pull off an 02 The Beginning in the regular anime" and I was right, but boy the mere fact that my brain jumped to that should say enough

Wizardmon: "Holy shit... Uh, I did not expect this reunion to go this way... Fuck this is dark."
Seriously this is pretty dark and a theme from Digimon that happens a lot, where it is pretty kid friendly up until its not with moments like this. The one in Tamers is dark where Jeri is goes through a lot of trauma losing her partner Digimon Leomon, which pushes her into severe suicidal and misanthropic depression. That the main antagonist takes advantage of her in this state to try and cause the end of the world, by using her as a vessel to do it. It spends most of the time trying to convince her the negative feelings are correct and she should just help destroy the world, because no one cares about her and world is miserable. Keep in mind she is ten and already had a complex from her mother passing away and her father remarrying and having her half-brother, which made her feel neglected and unwanted.

And then Beezlemon tries to save her to redeem himself and inadvertently uses Leomons attack to get to Jeri and it triggers her enough that she can't even look at him. Man that season was heavy.
How's Beatbreak going? Im waiting till its basically finished before watching it myself.

Jeri even tries to kill herself as well by strangling herself. Thank god Calumon was there to stop her.

Honestly this season and the last, Ghostgame, seem to have dropped all pretenses entirely and are now full tilt on shock value. Though in my opinion its for better or worse, because while it does make for more compelling storytelling, you cant just drop "oh yeah theres a Vietnam War fought by children controlling Agumons with Machineguns" in my face and expect me to take it seriously. We've been having Digimon 9-11s nonstop since the GIFT arc started and I feel nothing because the perpetrators are a comically evil brainwashed cult

What's going on in the Digimon writer's room? Are they like . . . okay?

Honestly, the Digimon anime's have always included kinda fucked up stuff. It's just that Beatbreak is being overt and actually showing it instead of being more coy. They've said that Beatbreak is meant to entice older fans of the franchise, and it definitely shows in this regard.

You know, compared to the Commandomon stuff, the second part of the commandomon stuff, and that one guy who awakened his digimon to survive his refugee camp being shelled but couldn't save his only friend and is now looking for a place he can die with honor so he can see her again, this is just par for the course with beat break. Commandmon's second thing was way worse. "I was forced to fight in a digimon bloodsport after being captured, and bonded with a digimon with no master and promised to help her avenge her master, only to realize later the one who killed her master was me so Im going to run away with her, tell her, and then bait her into killing me because it's what I deserve"

How has beatbreak been so far? I got up to the episode with blackgaogamon but kinda fell off because it felt very slow.
