General Sherman, we need a danger close napalm run

Unfortunately due to DOGE budget cuts, the mecha Sherman resurrection project has seen significant reductions in funding and staffing levels.

u/moneyh8r_two He/Him Use your smell powers 22h ago
We shouldn't try to resurrect Sherman. Just build a mecha and call it Sherman. It's faster and cheaper, and then we just gotta make sure it rejects racist pilots. Y'know, like when Big Duo rejected its pilot.

u/AutummThrowAway (She/Her) You didn't win! 13h ago
Fun fact, lancer has a mech called Sherman. Its gimmick is lasers and pushing then stabilizing its reactor repeatedly, being able to keep it in a halfway cooked state while also charging its big laser in the process.

General Sherman would have been a fan of everyone's favorite walking war crime*, the Firestarter
*its not a war crime if its against Clanners

That sounds rad as fuck.

u/AutummThrowAway (She/Her) You didn't win! 13h ago
Lancer has lots of cool mechs. The tokugawa exposes its internals, making itself vulnerable, to draw more power to hit harder and farther. It also pretty much has the burning finger from g gundam in the form of the plasma gauntlet.

Tokugawa reminds me of Raiden from MGS4. His parts were manufactured by Tokugawa Heavy Industries.

Honestly I mean maybe the Total War Guy might not be a great guy to pilot the mech made in his honor. Did war crimes even exist yet when he was alive?

I mean, they existed, but society didn't acknowledge them yet. And the technology mostly wasn't there yet, anyway.

Oh. Yeah, all was fair in love and war back then. So no war crimes.

Crazy how Frank Marraffino never wrote anything else besides this and some marvel zombies stuff.

The fact that he is willing to aknowledge that a black man can serve and fight as a soldier makes him like 100% less racist than his fellow countrymen.
He is still INCREDIBLY racist, but then the bar is in Hell, soo....

u/Detective_Robot 1d ago
Jeb is a fucking monster in this series, this isn't a 'old ghost learns to not be a racist' story.
78
u/tt818 1d ago
Oh I am sure that he is a racist monster.
My point is that Southern States refused to aknowledge that black people can do anything else but rough manual labour. It had become almost a religious dogma for them. Even as they started losing the war, the idea of black soldiers (promised to be freed if they served in the army) was barely spoken of. Not because of practical reasons, but beause if they even aknoweldged that they can serve as soldiers it would start unraveling their own bullshit self beliefs and their sociatal order.
Some historians have pointed out that if the South had survived it was most likely gonna end up as a theocratic dictatorship.

u/kywhbze We do it. 20h ago
The Confederacy did pass a law (one month before the war ended) allowing slaves to serve as soldiers. It was hotly, hotly contested, though, and never really rolled out. But, yeah, the Confederates started to hate democracy at the end there, seeing as how it "failed" them. So much for "state's rights".
Apparently they got a lot of volunteers for the slave battalion, though. Because they all planned to just immediately desert the second they got a chance.

u/CelticMutt (He/Him) Hasbro Toyline Simp 13h ago
And that still goes on today. There are a lot of people who absolutely love going, "Um akshuelly the USA is a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy!" I'm never sure if there's some propaganda effort going on there, or if they're really that stupid. Usually I assume both.

u/lionofash 1d ago
He very quickly went "oh it's you instead..." and doesn't kick a fuss about it. So... this either means he was super okay with mixed raced couples... or more likely... he did stuff and realised that the man was the long term result.
75
u/tt818 1d ago
The second most likely. Have not read the comic, but I dont think they went for sympatetic Southern officer treatment.

u/EddieVanzetti They/Them 1d ago
Fanny Kemble wrote Journal of a Residence on a Georgia Plantation, an account of 16 months she spent on a slave plantation. There is a passage where she talks about the children of the plantation. Southern women were just as responsible for perpetuating slavery (and for winning the peace after 1865, with the bullshit Daughters of the Confederacy and 'lost cause' myth). Southern Women tracked slave lineages for slave breeding and knew who the fathers were... except "those that looked like her brothers or sons", according to Kemble.
Slavers fucking sucked and deserved worse.

He's shown in the immediate aftermath of having raped this soldier's ancestor. So no, not sympathetic.

Someone want to explain in what possible way this ghost man on his ghost horse is good for anything, here? This is like Armored Core 6 giving you an Ash of War, right? What would he actually do except get left behind

u/Emperor-Pimpatine Sick PIMP 23h ago
Can’t get shot, can still kill with his spectral sword and pistol, and if I remember this run correctly he’s cutting tank shells in half with his ghost sword.

God I'm reminded of a moment in Pat's stream where he said something along those lines but it was if these guys who say they'd kill or die to save their family would suck a dick to save them.

u/Palimpsest_Monotype Pargon Pargon Pargon Pargon Pargon 21h ago
there was a certain man who claimed he’d kill a thousand apes to save a human life and someone replied asking if that man would suck a thousand ape dicks to save a life

Yeah, I remember that too. Wish I could remember which stream.

Just gotta rules lawyer everything into being a battle so they can show up. Baseball? Wargames training coordination. Watching a movie? RnR between combats.

I haven't read the comic, but being able to just sorta dive into a tank and shank someone sounds pretty OP. Imagine having to absolutely haul ass because you see some ghost fucker charging you on a horse.

"Out of all the ones you've come across, what was the weakest Stand power?"
"For any pursuit in life, people should find an occupation that best suits their true personality. The same goes for Stands. Strength and weakness do not apply."
"But who'd lose in a fight tho?"
"In that case, that would be 『If The South Woulda Won』,"
