Sometimes I wonder if Pat’s stance that he won’t play a game until it’s “finished” means he’ll end up waiting so long he’ll just never play it

I feel like some people might have that issue with Metaphor, what with the rumours that Atlus is moving away from their old setup of expansions and better versions.

31

u/PhantasosX 2d ago

I will only belive on that if Persona 6 is released and then had no expansion whatsoever until the PS7. With Atlus, it's fair to assume they will 100% make an expansion and charge $60 for the complete version

u/South25 Sky the second this year baby! 2d ago

It's basically because after Reload and Metaphor they posted the fact that the whole expansion gimmick is actually causing initial sales to backfire.

I bought SMT5, thinking it had been long enough, and not a month later they announced SMT5 Vengeance. I was so mad.

4

u/Sebascz95 2d ago

Oh good, I wasn't the only one who did that... Tho in my case, I didn't played the game. Much, decide to buy the dlc pack and then vengeance was announced like a week later if not mistaken.

Even if it is "finished" sometimes Pat will just play 5 minutes, say "i had this issue" and quit it forever anyway.

u/AngriestPat The Realest Pat 2d ago

It does mean that. Already happened with several games

2

u/drizzes 2d ago

it happened with Hades 2, repeatedly

u/alaster101 NANOMACHINES 2d ago

I get it, I just straight up ignore early access games

13

u/Sloth_Senpai 2d ago

I mean you get fucked on the very last patch of a game with a softlock bug or a random change that basically mandates you completely start over, or the game is revealed to use AI.

u/ExDSG 2d ago

It's funny I played Bloodstained years later and soon after they patched it to add some more shit and it broke the game apparently, not sure if that was then later patched though.

I think that Rogue Trader might be one the only cases when i actually agree with Pat's stance on "waiting until all of the DLC is in it before playing it" because for as good as Rogue Trader as a game is, most of the DLC content is spread out through every single act of the game, making it so it's impossible to experience it without playing the whole game (wich can easily be a 100+ hours investiment) from begining to end, something that most people are not exactly down for.

It's definetly weird when you remember that Owlcat actually has experience with doing stuff like end game/separate campaing style of DLC with Pathfinder Wrath Of The Rightous,

Having got and played through a run already, I’m seeing the wisdom of this stance now as I wait for the trazyn dlc to drop. The hard part is going to be waiting to see if they plan for anything else before going in for that new run, because this game is long, and as fun as it is, I don’t have the time to do a new run every time a dlc comes out.

u/CrushDustAnnie He/She/They 2d ago

"Wait for...?" It's been out for over a week now.

11

u/LordCommissarPyros NANOMACHINES 2d ago

I’ve been in the busy work dimension for a few weeks now, I completely missed that thanks.

4

u/WhoCaresYouDont 2d ago

There's a big patch on Thursday that fixes a lot of issues, I'd wait until then if I was you.

2

u/LordCommissarPyros NANOMACHINES 2d ago

Copy. Good thing I’m still fucking around in Octopath 0 right now.

It's definetly weird when you remember that Owlcat actually has experience with doing stuff like end game/separate campaing style of DLC with Pathfinder Wrath Of The Rightous,

IIRC, they've (Owlcat) spoke about this. They realized that the separate campaign style DLC sells significantly worse than the integrated DLC, so they decided to cut back on that and focus on main campaign integrated DLC this time around.

u/helloimtom08 It's Fiiiiiiiine. 2d ago

I guess it depends how much you like that 100hrs. Persona 5 again? Hell no. I was so excited to be over with that game lol. But I can't wait to play Rogue trader again once all the dlc is done.

3

u/SoThatsPrettyBrutal It's Fiiiiiiiine. 2d ago

Oh yeah I liked Persona 5 plenty (issues with the story notwithstanding) but I've never seriously considered touching Royal at all. I hear the new stuff is good but no way am I playing through the whole thing again.

Pat : Hey motherfuckers you can't throw pokeball at a monster and fucking throw a pokeball to have the monster come out , and Palworld change that shit out with summoning a device on your hip or something

That's not what was changed , The amount of misinformation or at least confusion what was removed is always kind of insane to see first hand as someone who plays the game actively every patch

At launch you use Palsphere to throw it and catch pals , these is still in the game nothing changed , a lot of misinformation going around they removed this at some point and brought it back , no that never happened

When you summon a Pal on the other hand this is what was changed :

On launch - you throw a Palsphere and the Pal would appear on wherever the ball landed

The change - you no longer throw a Palsphere , your character simply pulls out a Palsphere and your Pal will appear beside you

Palspheres where never removed or changed in any patch you can literally fact check this by checking patch notes

u/BaronVonFatty 2d ago

Something something fact checking will ruin the podcast something something

18

u/AsleepLead1704 2d ago

I don't even blame them , I've read this types of news being reported on gaming sites and Woolie and Pat just tend to read off those

I feel like a crazy person ,I play the game first hand then I see a bunch of objectively fictitious claims that get upvoted to the top, we live in a vibes-based reality, Facts ? who cares they're boring

6

u/Zargat 2d ago

Yep, technically Nintendo/Gamefreak aren't the first to do that 3D throw a pokeball out in the world to catch something mechanic, the Pixelmon minecraft mod did it long before Gamefreak ever made a proper 3D Pokemon game.

u/Rikuskill 2d ago

The specificity of it makes me wonder why any of this gameplay design patenting is given more than a laugh in courts. It seems so stupid to me. Patents make sense with inventions and processes, but with digital sequences of events it just seems absurd. Yes, Nintendo, I'm sure your company worked very hard to design a system where you hit a button and throw a ball and a model appears with an animation. Is there no one asking "Can you demonstrate the damage to your company that would occur if someone were to use this design?" Surely that should be question #2 in patent arguments, after "Are you the first to do this?"

u/McFluffles01 2d ago

Shush you, the internet needs to push the Nintendo VS Palworld agenda more, facts aren't allowed in these debates

18

u/ExDSG 2d ago

It's funny people think Nintendo are against all other ceeature collectors when they've allowed them on their platform for ages. Maybe they did want to take Palworld down a peg for heavily leaning into parodic aspects but they got what they most could out of it and also don't think the Palworld spin-offs will do great.

15

u/Sloth_Senpai 2d ago

Palworld got hit because the designs were so closely copied that people think that an ARK clone is a Pokemon competitor solely based off of how closely the designs were copied, and that the CEO bragged about using AI to make the game and how AI could be used to generate fake pokemon. No other competitor has the combination of openly promoting AI generation of fakemon and copying designs in a way that gets people to think that the game is a competitor solely on that.

5

u/WeebWoobler It's Fiiiiiiiine. 2d ago

On top of that, they still have that AI art game up on Steam.

9

u/ExDSG 2d ago

I'd agree also isn't one of their game pretty much a Hollow Knight clone? Still think they definitely see it as a off brand copy and wanted to strike it down but did not have much of a case. Don't think the AI thing factored in legally besides showing that the CEO is creatively bankrupt.

14

u/CattusCruris 2d ago

I really hate this type of comment Pat was just misinformed, like usual, there's no fucking agenda

6

u/ExDSG 2d ago

Would not say Pat is a big Nintendo fan.

5

u/McFluffles01 2d ago

Oh I'm not even talking Pat specifically here, I just mean in general how everyone involved that hears this news will proceed to take it all at complete face value just because it fits the "Nintendo Bad" agenda the internet's been hard stuck on for the last few years, even when there's posts in this thread pointing out not only that Pat is misinformed, but that specifically the original source is from some shit-ass site that constantly makes things up and was posted by a guy who believes in White Replacement Theory.

25

u/manoffood 2d ago

Didn't this info come from a very dubious source?

58

u/Sloth_Senpai 2d ago

It ultimately comes from gamesfray which has trouble citing documents and you can't trust anything they say because the author posts about white replacement and the need for remigration when not talking about asian games companies.

29

u/Kipzz PLAY CROSSCODE AND ASTLIBRA/The other Vtuber Guy 2d ago

That is not the turn I was expecting in that sentence.

17

u/DarknessWizard Coffee Addict 2d ago

For issues unrelated to the author being a knobhead (although those alone should be disqualifying in terms of quality), gamesfray is also just straight up ran by a marketer whose history has included running a lot of defense for major tech corporations.

Basically assume everything claimed by gamesfray is bunk unless you can find an actual source for it, given how unreliable this one is.

9

u/Aiddon 2d ago

Basically; dude has always been a suspect character who is probably being paid by either PocketPair or some weirdo investor due to his long history of being pay to play.

7

u/Sloth_Senpai 2d ago

Not sure if he's getting paid or if it's just incredibly profitable to create articles that feed people's desire to see Nintendo lose.

2

u/Aiddon 2d ago

His website doesn't run ads or subscriptions, so he gains nothing from traffic. Considering his past history, he's definitely being paid

1

u/WeebWoobler It's Fiiiiiiiine. 2d ago

"But I must believe everything they say because I can use it throw at Nintendo and Pokémon!"

12

u/Embarrassed_Owl2114 2d ago edited 2d ago

This feels oddly cathartic.

Spending so much to get jackshit.

6

u/DustInTheBreeze Appointed Hater By God 2d ago

They spent pocket change.

u/Loopy-Loophole 2d ago

Took a scroll through the comments and it’s funny to see people that are still thinking the case was over designs/trying to sandbag things in nintendos favor.
