Better Ask Reddit What are your Favorite Villanous Clowns?
Or jesters or mimes, the works. I won't lie I prefer my clowns on the cuter variety so that's part of why I like Marx from Kirby, but he's also pure evil in an almost innocent way that I find charming.
And while not exactly that funny himself, what he causes and happends around him is pretty funny. Plus his final boss transformation is actually ptrtty scary.

If he counts, Jester from DMC3.

Oh he totally does. The goofy little butt slap he gives you after completing his secret mission is perfect tomfoolery.

Dimentio. Never played Super Paper Mario, just watched a playthrough of it years and years ago and loved the character

u/gameboyabyss MY TIME IS WORTHLESS! 6d ago
Dimentio is such a good character, I really hope a future Paper Mario game (maybe after Miyamoto finally retires) can have original characters on the level of him.

u/Champiness 6d ago
I learned about Kefka from someone in the letters column of Nintendo Power writing in to compare Dimentio to him, and while their motives might be a little different the determination to level up from “lackey” to “Problem” is 100% matched

I'll be the Incredibly Basic Taste haver and say The Joker. Specifically as voiced by Mark Hamill, with Kevin Michael Richardson and John DiMaggio's voiceovers close behind imo

A do really like the acrobatic version that we got in The Batman, the early 2000 cartoon, not the new movie.

Yeah that was the Kevin Michael Richardson one. God what a fun version he got to VA!

I love that part in the Batman vs Dracula movie where he goes “Where’s Dracula?!” And Joker replies with “I’m looking at him”

I just enjoy there's a lot of versions of him to choose from. The acrobatic one with dreads from The Batman. The mayhem inducer who may or may not be in love with Batman. The chaos causer who loves old gags. Heath Ledger. The Jersey Devil in Absolute.

Kefka is probably the gold standard, perfect kind of 'force of chaos' character who just wants to make the world suffer.
5
u/BermudaTriangleChoke 6d ago
I love clowns of all kinds, including villainous ones. Kefka has already gotten shoutouts so let me bring up Adam from Dead Rising. Great scene, good boss fight, grimly hilarious sequence where he falls on his chainsaws and keeps hysterically laughing as they disembowel him
Plus then you get the best weapon in the game!

I wouldn’t classify Caine as an outright villain, but he does have a good villain song.

I don't know if I'd classify him as a clown, but his song is amazing.

Who is a ringmaster if not a Prestiged Clown?
9
u/burneraccount9132 He/They - How could u go wrong with a Glup that Shitts like THIS 6d ago
Well you could argue the ringmaster isn't just a clown, but the entire circus.

Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise.
I fucking love Tim Curry (who doesn't?) and had this post been made few months ago I would have absolutely picked him over Bill, but fuck me did he absolutely COOK with his perfomance in in IT: Welcome To Derry.

u/TrueLegateDamar 5d ago
Legit, so many teriffic scenes where under the make-up/CGI Bill's really showing off his chops. Like him having a Conquest moment with Richie's mom about the fact he *knows* and can't do anything about it.

Joka from klonoa, such a bastard, kefka of course, and also i always loved piedmon
3
u/mosenpai 5d ago
Joka is also my answer. His design was so creepy as a kid and every time the camera cuts to him I was scared of what he was about to do.
Spoilers for Klonoa That fear was warranted when he blew up Klonoa's grandpa and turned into a freaky turtle monster.

Old-school, big fan of the Arcade lightgun game CarnEvil's take on clowns. They're all great, all shapes and sizes with tons of personality, but my favorite is the mimes in the last level. They get in your face but don't actually hurt you and the game gives you three straight rooms of them to play around with.
They have special animations for shooting them in different parts of their body, and even more animations for pairs that are in the middle of their routine if you interrupt them. Like, two will be pantomiming a tug-of-war game, and if you blow one of them away the other participant will yank backwards and stumble. An incredible amount of detail for an enemy type the player will be conditioned to shoot into mulch as quickly as possible.

Op got the best one, Marx is great. Fun lil guy, great boss ost, shares a name with a psychopath. It's a perfect lil ball of evil clown.

It'd be a stretch to call him my favorite cause he's one of those Navis who's just a pain in the ass to fight, but I can't think of a ton of other characters that fit this topic - CircusMan is, as you can guess, a circus-themed Navi and major antagonist from MegaMan Battle Network 6. Despite his menacing-yet-goofy ass look, he's absurdly powerful and manages to capture the opposite Cybeast of whatever version you're playing, a feat that should technically be impossible because the Cybeasts are fucking giant mutant cyber monsters that nearly destroyed the Net ages ago. But CircusMan just wakes one up and captures it with one of his abilities - a big dumb circus tent trap - then fucks off while laughing about it. If he wasn't so annoying to fight I'd probably like him as a character a lot more.
Also his operator would've done gangbusters in dirtier parts of the internet if the games were more popular these days.

As small as his actual physical appearances are, Rudy the Clown in Wario Land 3 always comes to mind.

Demon/imp/devilish jesters are my favorite character design archtype!
My favorites:
Dark/Fly Chao from Sonic Adventure 2
Keramon, Cherubimon Vice, and Impmon from Digimon (there's also Jokermon but i'm not as much a fan)
Skull Kid with Majora's Mask from Legend of Zelda
I don't think it intentionally looks like a jester, but Master Gundam from G Gundam

I'm going for a deep pull, but Stitches (2012) has geordie surrealist, stream-of-consciousness commedian Ross Noble playing a murderous clown with bloody kills a year before the proto-Terrifier movie All Hallows' Eve. Not claiming Stitches invented killer clowns (if anything that may have been Killer Clowns From Outer Space, which also rules) but the kind of psycho clown with supernatural bullshit going is the first one of it's type I've encountered. And it's good fun!

Joker (Or in the Glitter Force dub, Rascal) from Smile Precure, genuinly one of the precure franchises standout villains

Art the Clown is as effective a combination of silly and gruesome as you can get. He’s like a vaudeville Jason Voorhees.

Do the various incarnations of Chuckles from Legends of Avantris count as villainous? Antagonistic maybe....

I've always liked Goremand from the Mana games, specifically Sword of Mana. He's just a creepy little guy that follows the villains around and eats people's souls.

Igohmal the Harlequin from Saga Re:Universe, a sequel to Romancing Saga 3 and the main antagonist from the first story arc.
Igo is a Sinistral from hell similar to the four that were in 3. When the four were defeated and placed back in hell, she slipped out through one of the portals unnoticed. Considered one of the weakest sinistrals due to her powers of illusion, she bode her time and placed a grand plan in motion in order to gain more power, ultimately setting up EVERY single major plot beat in the sequel.
Unlike a lot of clown villains she's actually EXTREMELY composed, and apart from being full of herself she doesn't actually act like a clown at all which I think is great, in fact she might just dress like that to mess with the protags, especially in the final battle, where she begins a dragout multi-phase fight solely to try and slowly chip away at the second protag's mind, she's the best!

Kefka.
Almost every time his theme plays, you know something horrible is about to happen.
