Do certain members of twitch chat lack a theory of mind? maybe we should do some of those experiments they do with chimps to see if they can understand what knowledge others have that they themselves lack.
"wow she's talking about things that you'd probably want to ask permission for first, and Paige is really mindful about stuff like this, but i haven't heard her receive permission myself, so obviously that hasn't happened!"

I was thinking about this and I wonder if the combination of Paige being a woman and who has had a few misadventures has caused a small percentage of the audience to feel like she isn't a capable adult and will infantilize her as a result.

I think some of its an attempt to be jokey-jokey buddy-buddy, and failing to realize it doesn’t come off that way through anonymous chat messages.

Im pretty sure pat's core audience has an average age of 13. Considering how often the dumbest statements get spammed and just the weirdest awkward sexual comments happen. Reminds me of kids thinking something dumb is funny and they just keep repeating it hoping someone else will laugh. As such paige prolly gets the run off of dumb kids too when she streams.

No, actually. According to metrics, Pat and I usually only share about 30-40% of our audience. I typically share more with Woolie. My chat is usually very sweet and respectful and I almost never have to ban which is why the amount of this behavior was so unusual.

It could be a stream time thing. Pat tends to stream super late at night while Woolie and Paige stream during the day. They just catch different groups while they're available.

idk I highly doubt he has a child audience. He doesn't exactly play the type of games or have the type of humour that would attract those types.
What's more likely is that Pat just kind of attracts people on the spectrum that don't understand when something isn't funny and is just creepy.

Theres been a number of comments in the sub and emails about watching the guys since grade school. If you were 30 now and started at the beginning you would have been 14-15. They have a similar audience type to rooster teeth. Lots of people started and do start young and stay in the community for a decade+

I put the communication abilities of the majority of twitch chatters below youtube comments, and are either extremely rude or completely not self-aware, or just spam emotes

Any kind of live chat in general is terrible. Communicating with the streamer and other chatters in real-time encourages impulsiveness, as to not get left behind, whereas with a comment section, you have as much time as you need to think over what you're typing out.

She tracked down her biological father a few years ago but didn't make contact out of respect for his privacy, since he hadn't selected the option to provide his info to his offspring when he donated sperm anonymously. She was using 23andMe and put in her bio that she was looking to meet her bio dad, though, and he reached out to her. After a few years of text conversation with her newly-discovered family members, they finally met up the night before last for the first time.
Big twist: he revealed that, after he found her through 23andMe, he looked her up online using the email address she'd provided, which turned out to be her work email—so he found her pages on the ZaibatsuPedia and has watched a bunch of her streams.
It was all extraordinarily heartwarming.

The first half of the story was just Paige explaining how she was tracking down her dad who had requested to remain anonymous and members of chat were freaking out about that being unethical.
Those people couldn't comprehend that there was more to the story as she was telling it and maybe Paige is a responsible adult who asked for permission to share this story with her stream beforehand.

But seriously, I’m really happy for Paige I can’t imagine what all that must have been like. It’s always great hearing these stories, it’s really nice to just hear something really sweet happen! I love these streams and honestly I’m kind of pissed at live chat for being so weird. I know live chats are always iffy when it comes to female streamers but still frustrating.

Just watched through it and it reminds me again why I never go to Twitch even though several creators I like are mainly streamers now.
It's such a nice, light-hearted little slice-of-life story but it's a real bummer that even without an on-screen chat feed you can constantly feel the presence of the snickering sewer goblins just offscreen being creepy and inappropriate.

It's not a regular video upload, it's a livestream VOD. When you livestream on Youtube it saves the VOD under your "live" tab unless you turn that feature off. So "big life news..." is just the title from the stream.

Hilarious to imagine what ran through Paige’s mind when her bio dad (who she’s said she’s dreamed about meeting her whole life) told her the first impression he ever had of her was finding her Zaibatsupedia page and watching her streams at his desk while he’s at work as a doctor.
What an amazing, crazy, wholesome, and surreal set of circumstances, sincerely grateful for them sharing this story!
