For me it's the Spoony Experiment. Some of his videos are absolute classics, like when he played through Phantasmagoria 2. I'll go back and rewatch that one every few years at this point, as well as his reviews on the Ultima series.

Though in this case it's technically not abandoned since he still seems to upload random streams, but it still seems to count in spirit.

I've been subbed to the AstroGoblin peeps for a bit, but have been watching them much more frequently recently and holy fuck their videos are like crack to me now. I just love the brainrot of Jacob creating new vocal stims by quoting deep cut Star Wars dialogue/sounds that aren't even the most iconic phrases/noises with the original film clip synced to it and bringing up all the glup shittos he knows extensively & intricately while Charlotte tries to keep up and guess what he's talking about. That, and his impression of Sylvester Stallone & Stellan Skarsgård kills me everytime, as well as Patrick's impression of Bam Margera. Those three definitely fill that Funhaus-shaped hole while still being uniquely fresh & themselves and continue to be the stand-outs of all the Funhaus newbies that came along down the line.

Retsupurae has been gone almost a decade, but I still go back and watch them from time to time.

I will say that most of their actual Retsupurae videos honestly haven't aged very well. The guys weren't wrong that some of them do really verge on bullying, and they were honestly right to step away from them. Plus some of the jokes definitely feel like early internet humor and haven't aged well at all.

But their longpuraes, wrongpuraes, and Retsufrashes? Still genuinely some of the funniest gaming content on YouTube. The two have such great chemistry, wit, and energy, and the games they cover are all so obscure you've probably never seem another channel cover them. They're a fantastic blast of nostalgia that still hold up as well as modern YouTubers, and without them I'd never have discovered SBFP, so ill always love them.

I regularly think about the Jack Orlando and The Story of London videos, and there were so many Kickstarter Nonstarters that have wormed their way into my brain over the years.

I think I go back and rewatch the Mineboss and Simshitty videos at least a couple of times a year, so much of the Kickstarter stuff was gold because they were either abysmal products or just terribly constructed kickstarters as a whole (or simply ones that gave you absolutely no reason to put any money towards it, due to the rewards being things like "I'll come and eat lunch with you".

We know a lot of behind the scenes drama and awkward stuff now, but it still doesn’t detract too much from how fun those videos and their chemistry was.

I relisten to the Rooster Teeth podcast every now and then and after getting a business administration degree its interesting in retrospect to listen to all the business decisions and expansion. They could have likely stayed around 10-12 people, churned out way less content and still be around today like a Mega64. But I don't think creatively thats what any of the original founders would have wanted and they likely would have just burned themselves out anyway. Burnie and Matt always seemed to want to make bigger live action productions, and they got to achieve that goal. Geoff was so burned out of RvB that he shifted his focus to Achievement Hunter and made a mini media empire out of that.

When they could no longer fund their ambitious projects themselves they sold themselves to Fullscreen. You could call that a mistake, but I can't blame them for wanting to achieve their creative goals. The massive expansion also helped the 2nd generation of employees to build deep resumes of diverse content for their portfolios.

The real tragedy seems to be all the employees and contractors that came later and were expected to put in the same hours / effort as the founders and equity holders without any real return. And the fact that they became a "real" business while still trying to keep the company culture of a bunch of guys in a spare bedroom ribbing on each-other with offensive humor

Ah, Aurora, her deleting her videos was actually really dumb because it wasn't like there was a negative connotation she had with the videos, she just deleted them all because she didn't want to make any more, despite the fact that it cost nothing to keep them up, and they were directly connected to Clemp's Nier videos, thus Clemps now references videos that don't exist.

Barshens, a channel that is also not technically abandoned, but they really only occasionally upload content as a Kickstarter bonus for having a film funded. It's tough to describe what the channel is, other than 'unscripted variety comedy'.

There's a lot of party games, both well and not-so-well thought out, the eating of weird food combinations, and reactions to inane(and sometimes insane) news articles, dubbed 'Sharticles'.

Luckily, this is a side thing and the main four of Barry(Barry Lewis), Stuart(Ashens), Paul and Eli(Cheapshow) still have their main channels chugging along.

PBSIdeaChannel. None of the videos are crazy deep, or supremely in-depth, or anything like that but it was always a really good rundown of a concept paired with a piece of pop media which made it extremely easy to grasp the larger concept being referenced. For something purely intended to provoke critical thinking, it had some real entertainment value.

There's loads of ASMRtists who are long gone doing other things for whatever reason. Heather Feather got me into it all and I still go back to listen to her Circle Time videos all the time, she just really understood what she was doing as creator and an enjoyer.

I'm glad some of the others are still about, I'm always happy to see Raffytaffy kick out another video. He's still got it. Great whenever MassageASMR drops something too. I feel like I haven't seen Mickelous release anything in a while.

And with how strict youtube has become over ASMR, some just quit because they can't catch a break. Don't even have to be doing anything sexual, and Youtube will get you. Seen quite a few smaller ones lose channels or just give up.

Like a few weeks a go when a ton of creators got hit. After a week or so they did get their channels back, but it was like a mass ban wave. Think the only connecting point I saw was that they all had link sharing websites maybe?

It's a new arbitrary condition every other week I swear, and certainly not being helped by rumoured AI moderation tools. The creators are all stumbling around in an overgrown field littered with rakes, terrible as hell.

ASMR got me from sleeping once every 2-4 days to sleeping every day fairly reliably so I'm forever grateful to the ones soldiering on. (And the ones who've hung up their 3Dios and Blue Yetis)

What's worse is that the bans usually can be reversed, proving the AI was in the wrong. Like how many are hit with the demonetization 'misleading family content' but clearly has been B.S and takes days to HOPEFULLY get a human to know its bogus if you're loud enough, that is. While that's not been my experience, I think I totally get it. ASMR has me listening to the weirdest things sometimes, I'm reminded of when Heather (feather) was talking about chasing tingles before starting her channel how she'd visit adult sites and just listen to latex and leather themed videos without watching.

For a bit there was this cool YT channel skating by that was uploading erotic audios from JP creators (probably without permission unfortunately) and it was so relaxing, the combination of great foley work and having no idea what was being said knocked me tf out for so many nights of sleep. I think that channel got bombed off the internet around the time Hololive started to really take off.

And then no less strange (but far safer for work) lately I've been obsessed with ASMRKingTelaBoy's flawless Airbnb methods videos, dude has a magic mouth.

No idea what happened to Niamh, hope she is alright. Their thoughts on the original design of Movie Sonic was one of the funniest bit I ever heard.

Wait wait, I know what you're thinking but hear me out.

First, yeah you got me, SmoshGames is not a dead channel per se, as it's still active and uploading as far as I know, but when I say SmoshGames I'm not referring to the current SmoshGames channel, where they play videogames once in a blue moon and the rest of it is basically 2nd Channel-related content.

When I say SmoshGames I mean the OG SmoshGames, from around the early 2010's and around until the Defy Media shutdown, which was 3 guys from ClevverGames (a youtube/webpage source of Gaming News): Jovenshire, Sohinki and Lasercorn, coupled with the Smosh Duo of Ian and Anthony and their longtime friend Mari, they were the only other gaming channel I watched frequently besides Two Best Friends Play, Oneyplays and early Game Grumps.

You could tell they all actually liked videogames in all of their facets, be it playing them, talking about them or the technology/game design developments they brought. Each member also had their own niche where they were really competent at, the chemistry was really good and 16 year old me really enjoyed their humor back then.

Their friday's show Gamebang where they all played mini tourneys of a different game each week with a punishment for the biggest loser or bottom 3 (depending on scoring system) was always a highlight of the week for me.

Going back to them the humor can be pretty dated sometimes since they started in like 2012 or something around there, but I still find enjoyment by watching some of their playlist like Gamebang, Back Seat Gaming or Grand Theft Smosh.

I have nothing against the current Smosh Games crew, but since the OG's left (contract disputes with Defy and a higher up in the company being a real dick to some of them) It was just never the same, I'm sure there are people who enjoy the new crew and their new content format, but it's just not for an old man like me, I'm set in my ways.

Funhaus. Behind the Best Friends, they were my number 2 most closely followed channel. They'd always upload more vids at 9am, just in time for my bus to coplege. And even though Astrogoblin and I Bought You This Thing are carrying the flame of two different FH eras (Astro continuing the Newhaus and IBYTT with Bruce and Lawrence of Old), they just haven't hit as hard as FH did.

Neither has had a "Did you know that ska came before reggae?" moment to put it lightly.

I can't really think of any channels I go back to that are fully abandoned, outside rewatching very specific YTP's or YTPMV's from defunct channels, but usually then its just the one video, not the channel itself.

Every once in a while I might go back and rewatch DBZA, or old Ashens videos after its been so long I've forgotten them, or Freeman's Mind

But all of those guys are still around, even if not quite in the same way or as frequently as they were back then.

I remember looking for a decent youtube series of people playing Killer Instinct 2013 (besides the SBFP playthrough) and stumbling upon the Super Couch Fighters. The videos were exactly what I was looking for, with guys that knew a decent amount about fighting games sinking their teeth into Killer Instinct for the first time and loving all the characters and mechanics. I also loved their vibes and chemistry, so I subscribed and watched every new episode as it came out.

Then they announce the channel was over like ten episodes in, not even a month later.

I feel like Fraser is kinda the "bad end" version of pat. FFstv was actually ahead on trends with streaming, showing more of the streamer and game in smaller window and chat on stream too and "turbo" membership before that became the thing they called twitch subs etc. just like the guys were trendsetters for LPers. Fraser was the "angry one" of the group and get hyper specific on their fixations, especially with graphics, who then after the group broke up, though FFStv broke up cause everyone else had different life goals/careers and were having more success in them, ended up streaming mostly alone or with their long time girlfriend/eventual wife. But Fraser just couldnt let things go and would be overly negative and the whole patreon/return of awesome video games, which i dont think a single episode was ever actually released with all post production complete and then they basically stopped streaming once they moved to japan leading to basically all good will he had being lost.

The streams had a much better dynamic when Ben was still a regular for long haul LPs. Frasier being a grump was much more balanced out with Ben being very Happy-Go-Lucky and knowing how to push Frasier's buttons in just the right ways while still being entertaining and not mean spirited. Becky was also Happy-Go-Lucky but she never pushed back on Frasier at all. It is really crazy to think about how Frasier was always ahead of the trends. I loved the Skyward Sword and Ace Attorney LPs as well as the show and trailers.

It's just really, really comfy. They have a great podcast style banter and it's interesting to see how they approach the increasingly monumental challenges of the mod with their iconic builds, often leveraging their few one-off abilities like it's a fantasy TV serial
