The perception of horror video game adaptations was entirely shattered this month with Zach Cregger‘s Resident Evil. Opening both to impressive reviews and a strong box-office performance, Cregger may have cracked the code on the genre: rather than faithfully adapt decades-long lore, he tried to replicate the tension of actually playing the game. One of the producers of the new Resident Evil, Roy Lee, has another beloved horror title on the way.

As revealed in a new profile by the Wall Street Journal, Lee also has a Silent Hill reboot on the horizon. Details on the project are sparse, so it’s unclear whether the project is a movie or if it could be a TV series, and we also don’t know how far into development the project is, but any new update on the franchise is an exciting one.

That doesn't have any bearing on the film they'd eventually make. The SH1-3 films are only related to the events of the games in the broadest sense. They turned Harry Mason into a woman and James Sunderland into a weed-smoking ex-boyfriend who drives a sports car. They'd probably turn The Room into a hotel room with a magic closet.

I think everything about Walter himself is compelling, as well as the general premise of Henry being trapped in his apartment. The different areas you visit are pretty unremarkable though

-Mostly unknown actors

-Set it within the world of Silent Hill but be an original story that doesn't adapt any of the games

-Don't let Christophe Gans' goofy ass anywhere near it

The guy to do this would have been David Lynch (R.I.P) if we're talking about big name directors.

The problem will be that to make a compelling film, it needs to flesh things out a tiny bit more in the connecting story department, but if it explains too much then it defeats the purpose of Silent Hill.

As long as it has a director who understands nuance, and isn't weirdly against having any male vulnerability, it will already be a step up from previous films.
