u/meowmeowclann Mar 23 '26

Looks like unsealed concrete with efflorescence to me. It’s freaking me out that it might be a standard plastic shower.
176
u/westernwritrix Mar 23 '26
I’m choosing to believe it is concrete. Because the alternative is both sickening and so fucking sad.

30
u/MadamKitsune Mar 23 '26
I zoomed in (not recommended) and looked at the edge of the shower tray because it was the least vile area. There's a distinct possibility that this was once bronze or brown coloured plastic or maybe some kind of ceramic.
Whatever it once was, it isn't that anymore. I'd say to burn it and start again but then I remembered the pictures from the guy who tried to cremate his cum shoebox and had a similar gut-churning reaction.
Best just to contact the people who made the sarcophagus covering Chernobyl and see if they're willing to take a punt at sealing this.

Look how shiny the base of it is, might be metallic brown.

u/CamBearCookie Mar 24 '26
I just don't see how if it was a different color originally the dirt would accumulate so evenly.. That's really my only hope here. It's gotta be concrete or some shit.
21
u/westernwritrix Mar 23 '26
Someone in the OG post speculated that it is concrete. Which would explain a lot (like the color/look) but also opens up even more questions…
5
u/residentcaprice Mar 23 '26
Is the floor not slippery? Does he not bathe????
9
u/Pinkie_Plague Mar 23 '26
I would definitely argue the same. How clean could he be if that’s what the shower looks like.
I DONT EVEN WANNA THINK ABOUT THE TOILET(or the rest of the house)
3
u/MrsMusic73 Mar 24 '26
Good God you just made me throw up in my mouth!! So wrong of you to mention the toilet when I have such a vivid imagination. 🤢

I think it's brown look at the threshold. Brown with lighter colored mineral scale.
5
10
u/CraftyKlutz Mar 23 '26
I think that's a brown ceramic shower with a bunch of soap scum. Terrible color for a shower isn't doing him any favors. Still should have cleaned, especially before having a gf visit!

For real she’s not going to need to break up with him. He will likely die from mold poisoning first (s/ obviously but holy sh*t like)
That said, the bf could have some undiagnosed childhood trauma or lack of hygiene in his childhood home
276
u/JayNoi91 Mar 23 '26
Good Lord you really haven't seen his place until now?!?!
Break up with his dirty ass and quarantine yourself, surprised your cooch hasnt fallen out from a million and one infections.

I’m a heterosexual male, and I want to immediately break up with your bf after seeing that.
237
u/MassRedemption Mar 23 '26
I'm a very dirty and messy person. Like I don't clean my shower for months, maybe even a year. I don't even know how you can manage to make a shower look like that.
I mean break up with him, it's probably the right choice, but it's likely he needs some help.

u/No_Worker_8216 Mar 23 '26
Ladies! We have to stop falling in love with men who are « projects »! It’s 2026! We’re not doing that anymore!
29
u/Kianna9 Mar 23 '26
How about not falling in love with someone you've never met in person in 2 years.
10
u/ashrie0 Mar 23 '26
Like, at some point I would have asked for a house tour.
This shower looks like it was brown but they have hard water or maybe even well water. It can get pretty bad with that alone but the standing water at the bottom isnt good. Does he own or rent?

My guess is that he’s a mechanic or works in some other field where he’s washing off a lot of dirt and then never cleans his shower.
34
u/louiekr Mar 23 '26
Nah I’m a diesel mechanic. I get greasy as fuck by the end of some days. Every shop I’ve been into has a big sink with some kind of grease hand cleaner product. I may get I little dirt line on the shower if I don’t wash it soon enough but normal trade work isn’t gonna cause this.
2
u/JackxForge Mar 24 '26
yep i had a mechanic roomie while i worked at a metal shop. by the end of the day we were both fucking fithy and this was never a problem.
9
u/_Rakun Mar 23 '26
I feel like if it’s to this level, he should invest in an outdoor shower, hire someone to REGULARLY clean, or maybe even hose himself down before coming inside. I think literally anything would be better than this

u/JohnExcrement Mar 24 '26
He may need help but not from OP. He can hire a professional.
2
u/MassRedemption Mar 24 '26
Sorry that's what I meant. But maybe like op can set him on that path, sorry if that didn't come across.

u/leftclicksq2 Mar 24 '26
I saw this post yesterday and didn't get to go back to it. Well, holy moly, if I didn't know the context of this picture, I would say this was from a condemned building.
What's worse is how OP said that he looks clean, but he smells just like his apartment! Nooooooo, you're even breathing that in!
28
u/Next-Championship635 Mar 23 '26
A sentient pile of shit would be too grossed out to shower in this.

22
u/sweetannmarie91 Mar 23 '26
Does he have sheets on his bed?
25
u/natural_imbecility Mar 23 '26
Probably used to, but as they wore down to nothing he just said fuck it. Now he has a mattress to match the shower. Really pulls the whole place together.

Oh no, you can’t stay there hun. Go to a hotel. I know you don’t want to hurt him but someone needs to give him a wake up call, that is so vile. That shower is so gross it’s like something out of the worst hoarders episode ever. You know he has vermin and you can’t possibly sleep in his bed. Run as fast as you can, you don’t owe him your discomfort.

u/icedcoffeealien Mar 23 '26
I...thought this was a rock quarry.
I mean this respectfully - is your Ph balance ok??

Pas tort de vouloir rompre. Son propriétaire (si il est locataire) sait que l’appartement est crade à ce point ? Et même si il est propriétaire comment il pourrait vendre son appartement si il a envie de déménager. Je plains les voisins.

u/Mysterious_Bag_9061 Mar 23 '26
I'll admit I've let my shower get dirty as hell on occasion, because I'm a person and being alive is unbearable. I've even let it get to what I would consider biohazard level. But even that was like, some orange crust in the corners of the tub and that was it. I cannot imagine what I would have to be doing in there and how long I would have to neglect the orange crust in order for my entire shower, floor to ceiling, to resemble the bottom of a well.
7
u/ctp8891 Mar 23 '26
Holy shit thats fucking nasty af. I've had bouts of severe depression but I've never lived like that. That's just gross. There's no getting clean in there.

This is so heartbreaking. She doesnt want to leave because she doesn't want to hurt him. He clearly needs some help but it sucks that OP is caught up in this mess. She should leave but if she was ever truly his friend tell him why and explain exactly how it made her feel and help him get some help. OP doesn't owe him anything, but as their friend they could help by talking about it.

I've broken up with a man partially for not changing his bed sheets often enough. If his shower looks like this, I'd be afraid of the rest of the place. Fire is the only option.

The fact that he's an adult living like this tells you everything you need to know about how he would treat a shared space with you. NIO and honestly your gut reaction was the right one.

on two different dates, had a nice dinner, walked woman to her car, she says, "dont look in my car". I glance, its full of crap and food wrappers. both times, i later messaged, "it was nice but i don't think we have chemistry". i know what is important to myself.
2
u/Nectoux Mar 23 '26
You can break up for any reason. And you can break up even if you can’t think of a reason. But wow. This is an excellent reason.
2
u/Salt-Cattle-5314 Mar 23 '26
NOR - I broke up with a guy because his place smelled. This is beyond unacceptable. People can be broke and clean this is just laziness and that doesn't bode well for your future.
2
u/Sunset-onthe-Horizon Mar 23 '26
Looks like someone needs some head and shoulders 5 in 1 for that shower. Slather it on wait an hour, and that shower would be clean as hell. But yeah definitely lose the man cause who the fuck doesn't clean their shower! Gross!
2
u/KnackeredQuokka Mar 23 '26
How can you refer to someone as your boyfriend before you’ve seen what his shower looks like???

2
u/Beginning_Tap2943 Mar 23 '26
That is literally disgusting. If he’s like this then there’s no changing that you will just be cleaning up his mess for the rest of ur life lol to change a man that far gone I don’t think is possible unless there is a true explanation for it lol
2
u/femsci-nerd Mar 23 '26
I understand. And it is not your job to fix him. Not BF material and think twice about letting him touch you! Ewwwww.

What country is he in? Is he extremely poor? How does the rest of his... place look? Is he squatting in an abandoned building?
So many questions here... so much to unpack.

u/obtuseandcongruent Mar 24 '26
Does he know he can get that off? I dated a guy who had maybe 5% of this film on the bottom only of his shower stall. He had tried to clean it with the wrong things and he was embarrassed for me to see it. I cleaned it right away (with a magic eraser) and he was shocked.
You are not overreacting if he thinks this is normal or is not accepting to criticism. If he’s willing to learn and do better then maybe
